I see that no one has bothered to talk about their Broward yacht, issues with Broward, etc., for some time now. I own la 97' Broward yacht, Burning Daylight, and am located in Southern California. We use her for cruising, entertaining, lunches and dinner, and, even when only at the dock, just to get away however briefly from business and other worldly cares. Just spent several days at Catalina Island and our family is planning a trip to Alaska for next year. Burning Daylight is a great vessel--solid, sea worthy and laid out with space and comforts enough for our family and friends. It is summer and therefore always preferable to be boating rather than writing about boating. But does anyone want to talk about their Broward yacht? Let us not let the name of this great American mark just fade away.

LOLOL. Have you ever ridden or run a Broward in a following sea? Also Many Browards were extended, one that I ran was extended 3 different times, which just multiplied the handling problem in a following sea.

I think I first heard it in Chuck's Steakhouse in the mid-80's.

.... and many times after that.

Hi DRB and welcome to YF. I had a Broward and I've never heard the saying either, but keep in mind a lot of members here are running much bigger boats these days. The classic semi-displacement hull on old Broward's did tend to get pushed around a bit and they would heel like a sailboat in cross wind, but it never kept any of us from going to sea. We just didn't know any better! ;)

I have a 97ft Broward cockpit motor yacht built in '87. Never been extended. I live in Southern California but we have cruised extensively in our vessels, as, for example, in a 78ft Hatteras before the Broward. We've taken the Broward through the Panama Canal twice on our way to and from the Caribbean but do most of our cruising in local waters off the California coast. Next year we plan a trip to Alaska. I know our vessel is small by comparison to so many others these days but happily as of yet we have not had the "pleasure" of experiencing issues mentioned above. At least we are talking about Browards again, the purpose of my thread.

Glad to see you putting many miles on your Broward, what was her original name?

It's great that your experiences have been so positive. It also reflects that there are many different "Broward's" out there. Others talked about extension after extension and yours wasn't extended so the characteristics of yours could be far different. I'm sure year and size has wide variations too.

We just completed a trip to Alaska. Hope you enjoy yours as much as we did ours.

    Fred:

It's great to hear that you are enjoying your BROWARD.

Like any yacht, you need to operate and maintain safely and professionally.

BROWARDS are the second largest group of yachts built in the world, just behind Azimut/Bennetti, according to YACHTS INTL & YACHT REGISTER, with over 200 yachts built from 1953 through 2008.
I was privileged to be involved in approx 100 of the BROWARD builds from 1966-1983 & 1998-2001.
My favorite name for any yacht was a HARGRAVE-Designed BURGER, named "Compromise."
That pretty well describes all yacht, as there is no vessel, commercial or pleasure, that can do everything.
BROWARDS were designed and built with value, use of space, and safety in mind. Frank Denison, the founder, was first and foremost a businessman, then a yachtsman - who, before buying "DOOLEYS YACHT BASIN" (renamed) BROWARD MARINE, in 1948, operated a large Midwest trucking company. Boats were his avocation, not his vocation, but he pioneered many innovations, including installing the first Diesel engine in a yacht in 1933.
BROWAD built the first aluminum pleasure boat in 1958, but also built a steel yacht in 1955, and dozens of wooden yachts (up to 102 ft), and the 200+ aluminum yachts (from 1973 forward).

And that completes our unpaid advertisement....

Kit, you didn't even link to the history page, but to the main Denison page. The history might have been nice had you not tried to turn it into a promotional piece.

And had you not just joined this forum to make that one post. Are you going to be a regular contributor to general topics or is this just a fly-by ad?

PacBlue, she was called Morning Edition. I bought her as Oasis and renamed her Burning Daylight, a name we have given to all our vessels after the Jack London novel.

Sir, I am not sure, wheather to call your first post brave or audacious. Joining YF under your full name (being may be the son or grandson of the yards founder) and your first post is a full scale promotional article with a direct link to the yards website, hats off !!

    Guess what happens next :p!

    Ups, it happened already.

Lars, thank you for removing Kit's post and OB's follow up. I have reinstated, but removed the link. This is really sad. I had just finished responding to an inquiry from Kit as to why their domain was banned at YF, then I see he did the same thing that Bob's other brokers have attempted! This pretty much confirms everything I've heard about this brokerage organization.

    A copy of the correspondence...

When I was growing up, I was told "If you can't say anything nice about somebody, don't say anything at all." I choose to engage that saying about this thread. I don't want to be thrown off of this forum, so I'll stick to other threads here.

Well NEO, until such time as you've been in the position of guiding a forum with members of a certain means, then you couldn't possibly understand the challenges we've faced every day for 11 years. Many with a vested interest in yachting have come here to solicit our members. A number of them are brokers who have never contributed anything to this community.

But worse, there are folks that come here looking for investors and *think* this is OK, or that we will not discover them. It is WRONG on every count and it NOT acceptable! Are we clear?
