The 1991, Silverton 41 I'm currently in negotiations to purchase has, per the survey, several issues that will need attention. Most are minor and I can do them as time permits. One that needs attention NOW, is the hot water tank. It appears that the current replacement tank is an unsafe unit, ie no spark protection, and no engine circulation hoses. Obviously it must be replaced with a proper marine unit. I have no idea what the CORRECT tank should be, the correct make, the correct style, the correct shape. was it round? Was it rectangular? The current tank is located just in front of the port engine, and I suspect that was where the original was located. I also suspect that the original water heater fed off of the port engine (since it's closest) but I'm only speculating. I'm just wondering if there is a 41 owner on here that could offer me what the stock original hot water tank brand was/is, and where the water supply and return hose connections are...ie are they on the front, the sides, the rear? and what was the correct original capacity....10 gal?...20gal? Am I correct in saying that the port engine was the one that was connected to the water heater? Thanks in advance Piper
You do not need to connect a water heater to your engine. It's nice to have sometimes. Marine heaters come with / without this heat exchanger. If your a gas boat. The water heater must have an ignition proof thermostat. If the water heater is in good shape, ensure the thermostat is ignition proof and properly wired in.
