You know I almost fell inside a trawler yacht that I was staying on. Don't get over heated and get on a boat. It will make you sick as a dog.

If they don't get it when you tell them to use sunscreen, show them this picture of me. It was taken on 4/15/14 at my dermatologist's office after he'd removed a squamous cell carcinoma from the side of my head.

I grew up on the Great Lakes in the 50's and 60's, before sunscreen was invented, and spent a LOT of time in the sun. This is the fourth Squamous Cell Carcinoma I've had removed.

Sorry you've become a real life example and we're both hoping so that all turns out ok for you. You're right, there was a time people didn't think of it. I had an aunt who always wore this huge monstrously ugly and ridiculous looking straw hat when outdoors, whether working in the yard or anything else. Of course now we know she was the smart one. My parents said they'd never heard the term SPF when they were young.

Now we have the knowledge, but some still believe it only happens to others and not to them.

It was painful for Belle and I to see that, but by posting it you might have helped someone on this site. Most of us on this site have risk and those who think by the fact they're in the sun all the time and are tanned and not burned, they're immune, hopefully will rethink that and learn the facts. And we will show it and share your story if someone just refuses to believe.

Belle and I both so wish you the best in your continuing fight against the Carcinoma. It was courageous of you to share but here's hoping both for you and that it stops someone else.

I´m boating on and off for 43 years now, always without shoes, nobody enters my boat with shoes, I send them home if they refuse...

And in 43 years, never had any accident, and why...relax, always stay calm and think, use your brains

Always announce start/stops for boats/tenders/toys and make sure guests are aware. Pretty please :D Connected my head to furniture once or twice when departing in a tender. Witnessed an absolutely theatrical culbyt by a nice girl from a starting jet ski, except it was perpendicular to the platform hence instead of falling into water she hit the edge...

    As you hit the dock.
Every one is ready to go all the luggage piled up around the door.
People and dogs climbing over you to get off before you finish tying up the boat.
Once its safe and secure you can leave I will let you know.

Next full blown conversations on ether side of the captain at the helm. It gets bad when the passengers turn down the radios so they can be heard.
I don't need screaming mothers and kids on the bridge.

Shut the front door and get H off my bridge.

    Great subject !!!

I have been playing, working and living on boats since I was a kid and fortunately never seriously injured myself. Yes a few bumps and bruises the odd stubbed toe and a few sprains but no broken bones or severed body parts.

My number one rule is "Slow down and look at what is going on around you and the rest of the people onboard"
