one is under the forward berth, one is in the wall on the port side of the salon, take off the return vent to see it.. dont know if you have a lower helm.. and one is on the starboard side of the aft cabin in the closet at the floor...
Hi I am looking to buy a 42 Carver aft cabin, 1988-90, for the Great loop. I have a question about the AC. Are the 3 units big enough to cool the boat in the summer heat of the southeast US?
It solely depends on their size and location, but they shouldn't have an issue. Now if you're looking to keep it in the 60's and it's 90F outside, most yachts would have a problem keeping it that cold. But in the 70's should not be a problem in South Florida with 3 units on that size boat generally. I manage a 37' Silverton MY that has a lot of interior cubic footage and it has 2 units and they do fine.
I am currently on the Loop and have a 1990 Carver Californian 45 with three AC units. I have only run all three units at the same time a few times. Normally, I only use the salon unit to cool the interior sufficiently before sleeping. If you have had a long run or an exceptionally hot day, run the bilge blowers for 15-20 minutes to pull some of the heat off the engine compartment. This will help, but the engines will be a significant source of heat, a feature you will appreciate if you go up to Georgian Bay or in the winter time in Florida.
I have a 4207 here in Texas. My 3 units keep it nice during our HOT summers. I agree with running your engine room blowers to get rid of some of the heat from the engines.
