I have just returned from a fantastic weekend trip to Catalina and have a head scratching question. A beeping alarm started sounding in the helm. It was a single beep that would repeat every 3 seconds. Some of the time it would beep twice, other times up to 5 or 6 times in a row. There was no set pattern. It would alarm for minutes at a time or go silent for stretches up to 10 - 20 minutes and then return. The gauges all seemed to be reading normal and I had plenty of fuel. I attached a photo of each instrument panel below for review. The sync gauge was showing that the motors were were working together. The boat ran fantastic, I held her steady at 2800 RMP and we were doing about 12 knots. But the alarm was sounding intermittently the entire 2+ hour trip. There must be a finite amount of reasons why the alarm would sound off. Does anyone have a list of what those reasons may be? The vessel is a 1999 Carver 404, with gas engines.
Some of them have the alarm tied to the transmissions. Have you checked all fluids lately? The alarm on my boat is tied to the engines and will sound when there is no oil pressure or oil pressure is lost. It could be a sender or just have a loose connection.
Good thought. I did check the fluids before the trip and everything was topped off. The oil pressure gauges were both showing 60, which (I have been told) is where they should be. I will need to check the connections. Any other thoughts???
Is this alarm the same one as when you turn the ignition on, your Check Engine alarm? This alarm is the Low Oil Pressure and Hot Water Temp. switches...warning about a problem. Check if the temps and pressures are good. Could be a bad switch. Disconnect switchs and test. If either switch is closed it will trigger the alarm.
