Replaced Covering Boards

    Has anyone recently replaced there teak covering boards? Mine clean up pretty good but I like the newer smooth look than the ones that are on my current Post. Wouldbe interested in Costs ??

    If you still have decent depth in the teak, you can sand them and they will be smooth again. If not you'll need to replace them. They're not cheap by any means, but I don't know the pricing.

    I had mine replaced last spring. I saved a lot of money by using two boards instead of one wide piece, it looks like it did from the factory. A 12" wide piece of teak is running about $35 a board ft. the cost was $4,700.00

    Be thankful it was only 12" wide! Last set of 18" 5/4 bookmatched boards I bought cost $55/bd.ft. and a 28" wide one for the transom/fish box was $57!

    Also beware the raw cost of the new teak itself is many times not the biggest expense. I'd say about 50% of the covering boards I've replaced had more serious underlying issues with the substrate they are mounted on that was difficult to detect before removal. If there is wood beneath and screws were used to fasten it down there may be water damage requiring more intensive care.
