Can someone please tell me how the foredeck of a 1973 55' aluminum Roamer is constructed? Aluminum sheet, balsa core, marine plywood, solid glass layup? The one I am looking at has had some repairs to the area directly in front of the bench, but there are more colors than a Picasso swirled in, and I cannot seem to get to the underlying substrate. While we are it, what is the aft deck composed of? This one has had the flooring peeled off and is painted with a silver or aluminized paint.

i'm one of the gawkers, and probably like a bunch of us with smaller Roamers not sure of the answer. Best of luck on the project. I know there are a couple of people on the CC Commander Club site that owned larger Roamers that might be able to help you as well. Give them a shout out there.

I used to manage a '75, 60' (extended to 70') Roamer. In front of the Portuguese bridge, the forward deck was plate over frames with some insulation under, wood strips screwed to every other frame and headliner stapled to these wood strips. On this plate was fairing compound , primer & paint. A Non-skid was textured in the final coats of top paint.

I also drilled, tapped and installed a roller guide for the second windlass. From that. I's say 3/16" plate around the windlass and forward bow cleats.

I remember a wet shore power cable arcing on the for deck. The fairing and paint was not that thick.

The aft deck was decking over plywood, over thin plate. I think originally teak, the owner changed it to the lighter teak & holly strips.
The Saloon, galley and all other interior decks were carpet or deck over plywood.
