    Ugly

    Yes I'm another one who belives the the Wally 67 is Ugly. Better seakeeping, great ambience on board maybe so , but the yacht designers job is to maintain those attributes whilst at least keeping some sense of proportion and style.

    Wally redefined the lux yacht industry in my mind by daring to use the ultimate luxury,- space... In commerical designs you have to use up every available square inch, but with an owner who can afford it why not add a few meters of empty space just to ensure you can cruise along at 70 kts in sea sata 5 or whatever she does. The new Wally 67 seems to be less in this vain although there does appear to be a lot of deck space and relatively little accommodation for a 67footer.

    Comes pretty close to my ideal boat; not unpractical too, perfect for fishing with all this deck space :)

    With all the weather stuff going on a couple of weeks ago, and then the FLIBS, I forgot to check Wally's site lately. They've got some new releases in their News section:

    This is a new build (scheduled for launch late 2007) based on the design of the 143 they already have under construction. I'm not going to rewrite everything they posted on their own site... but suffice to say this is another cool Wally. They're obviously doing something right too, as this is the sixth sailing yacht currently under construction at their yard.

    Look... it's Rising Sun, but not ugly. (Although personally, I prefer the 70m Wallypower over this 55m.) There's also a full write-up on their site for this design as well.

    Absolutely; b.t.w. Rising sun isnt that ugly; its like the older types mercedes, they had to grow on you

    Naa! She deserves the extra viewing space! :D

    And Tantetruus.. I totally agree with you, I stand by the design of Rising Sun, as demonstrated in a conversation a long while ago, but lets keep this to Wallys :)

    Good idea Kevin. BTW... thanks for posting the Wally 55m when you came across it. It put the wheels in motion over here. I try to stay on top of new info, but between FLIBS and the new YF... I'm so far behind I need a shot of nitrous to catch up.

    Sticking my neck out here... I haven't been a big fan of the Wally designs, although I know they are extremely popular with everyone else. With the 55m, I'm joining the ranks of Wally fans. I really like it. :)

    I do like the Wallys also for their styling and innovation...but..imagining myself on those vast open deck areas, I have always a feeling that you are very exposed to the elements : in rough weather (no boats for the higher latitudes!) but also in the sun. Unless you want an nice tan.;) , and also in harbours : no places to hide away from people at the quay.......

    The Wally 55 is not really within the previous Wally Power concept and I am not sure I like it either...

    From the Wally Tender came the 118 and later the 70 m concept on the same lines. Also a handful of other sizes in between and the one where it makes most sense is the 90-footer. Not too big, still big enough to get attention and to use as a mini superyacht...:cool:

    I'm not entirely into the proportions of the greenhouse on the models under the 118'. The Wally 70m though.... WOW!

    Since you asked :D - What I say is that the huge slab sides on the superstructure don't work for me. I can respect the urge to steer clear of the usual wedding cake superstructure. But this one needs more refinement.
