I have been following the delivery on the Nordhavn site here Welcome to Nordhavn.com - Power Thats Oceans Apart

It's nice that they are taking the time to post daily reports in the blog. It really helps one understand more about daily life on the boat.

I'm a bit surprised with how slow they are going. I checked the last leg and they averaged 7.2 knots, pretty far below hull speed. I guess they are running in best economy mode. That seems the opposite of the European yachts that love to trade gobs of fuel($) for speed.

They have been dealing with some strong currents and wave action. The latest video from Paul Glover (Nordhavn 120 Delivery Videos) mentions that they are starting to increase speed, the currents are beginning to work in their favor, and that they were perhaps taking things a bit slow in order to keep crew from bouncing out of their bunks in the forward cabins.

My question is... What is on the Fly Bridge? What did the owners glass in?

That question was answered in their blog Welcome to Nordhavn.com - Power Thats Oceans Apart near the bottom:

    Date: July 25, 2013
    Name: Alex Powel
    City: Steyning
    State: West Sussex
    Country: GBR
    Subject: Pilot House

    Question: Hello,
Firstly what a beautiful yacht. She looks sleek yet tough and luxurious and certainly put that 37m Sunseeker she was parked near to in Honk Kong to shame ... good job!!
My only query is that there appears to be two pilot houses on board the N120, one above the other. Is this right and if so what is the reason for this? Would it not make a more social area in the enclosed flybridge to have something else?
    Bon voyage,
    Alex

Jeff Leishman on board N120 Aurora responds:

    Hi Alex,

Yes, your observations are correct. She does indeed have essentially two pilot houses.
As you may know the owners are from British Columbia and spend mostly all their time cruising the Pacific Northwest. They asked us to enclose the fly bridge with a more robust method than the usual isinglass and it evolved into what is really a sky lounge pilot house combo.
It is my favorite place on the boat and with double sliding glass doors easily becomes a great indoor/outdoor entertainment area with almost a full galley.
We're having a great time and are making good progress with a favorable current.

    Best regards,

    Jeff

If you look at the photos on the delivery webpage you will see that pics 9 & 10 are of the "flybridge" and pics 40 & 41 are of the pilothouse. The first pic on post #78 above shows the "flybridge".

That Nordhavn is beautiful, and cant wait to see her in person, hopefully she'll be at FLIBS, I know that it's right around the corner, but have already gotten my arrangements planned.

I've followed her on her voyage a little bit, but it will be interesting to follow her live!

No updates on the site for 3 days.:( Funny how I got into the routine of checking the blog every day to follow along with the adventure.

They have been in Dutch harbor for a few days and all is quiet on the delivery blog. Does anyone have some inside info to share?

Are they in Dutch Harbour? Their Spot Tracker shows them in Adak.

Assuming they come in to Vancouver at a not-too-unreasonable time, I've gotta try to get a pic showing me watching them in my Yachtforums T-shirt.

Based on the additional video that Doug Harlow has posted on his youtube, it looks like they were heading to Dutch Harbor. Not all of his videos are making it to the official webpage, apparently.

According to last update on facebook, its due to some bad weather system in the area.

And they don't have internet there so no updates until they leave.

I called the Nordhavn office and found out that all is well except they are having a problem with their internet connection where they are located in the Bering Sea.

    Arrival

They arrived on August 29. 44 days. 6500 total miles. Some weather concessions along the way. It was interesting to follow and see how even on a yacht like a Nordhavn 120 you have to be prepared to adjust plans as circumstances dictate. The solid lesson that arrival dates are never fixed and conditions always take precedence.
