I have an Onan 6.5 Genset on my Carver 3607 '87 and while I can crank it up with no problem it won't shut down with either switch. I try to turn it off using both the switch on the unit itself and on the breaker panel. I can only get it to shut down by pulling a fuss. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

I had one suggestion that the ground wire is loose. I have checked all the connections I can get to easily with no luck. But before I started tracing things I figured I would ask.

    Thanks for any ideas.

They usually have a shutdown solenoid that might be bad.

I think the Onan 6.5 is a gas generator?

It is a gas generator. The solenoid sounds like that could be it and I found the manual so I will study it and go from there. The only good mechanics in my area that even know this genset are backed up for weeks so I'm just going to make a run at it myself.

    Thanks for the ideas.

mine did this it was the switch on the on the breaker box, it would shut it down. Seen another one that we had to replace the fuse holder.
