I know of small boat telescopic anchors... but has anyone any information on this shown in the video at 4:00 into it.

Seems like it would work but never have heard of it before for yachts.

I'm curious as to how this would work? I'm thinking the shear weight of this in order to be able to go deep enough for a 50m vessel would make it incredibly cumbersome?

    Hi,

Great in theory but do not see the ability for it to work reliably and well given the sheer size it would need to be to be deployed in even 10 m of water.

Maybe some more coffee shop visits will come up with the solution.

They'll need to add a third one, and make a few more adjustments...

I think it could work up to maybe 10-12m of water. I suppose it could be a hydraulic cylinder system and if the fluid is pressurized to 125-150 bar it would be likely rigid enough... sure give you a good hold if pushing down on the bottom with 20-30 tons of pressure... using two or three would stabilize the boat at anchor.

    Hi,

150 Bar is not an outrageous;y high hydraulic oil pressure.

If it were 12 m long,

How many sections do you think would be required to get that far down?

How much room is this going to take up in a 50m yacht that seems already stuffed to the gills with the equipment required for this?

If fully extended think of it as a beam question, one end is fixed by friction and the other can move in various directions at will, throw in a variable of deploying it on hard and or uneven ground.

Maybe it is a left over from Jongerts proud sailboat history, these are the masts!!

I would think the sections would be 4 to 5 m long and there would be some overlap so 4 or 5 sections. But it would be like a mast inside the boat. You would need a hydraulic supply... not ver big but a rather large accumulator to allow a 1-1.5m vertical telescoping to account for wave action.

Plus, 20-30 tons isnt much to hold a vessel weight easily more than 10x that....? Get some waves into the action and the momentum this thing is going to need to fight is just tremendous....

I'll wait to be proven wrong, but for now i call impossible/impractical... (ps: if its dead calm and 3ft of water you dont need this over-complication...)

The question I have is if you have lets say 20 or 30 tons pushing down on the anchor point... exactly how does a conventional anchor match that... unless it is off some huge ship like an aircraft carrier?

Also, what happens if (when?) the retraction mechanism fails? It looks like you are stuck there until it can be fixed to me.

    They must be kidding.

We have similar solutions on work boats and barges here, but they are only used in calm and shallow waters.
