Female Boat Owners

Hi Addy, I remember seeing an add or web page for a charter boat in the Fiji area that had a female skipper. Sorry can't recall the details, try google.

there are a couple in the north west that do so east in the summers they are both wood and really neat old boats there are also at least three comercial fish boats that i know of that are owned and also operated by girls the two that we have personaly worked with are very productive and well respected if you want more onfo pm me and i will send contact info

Is there anybody else who finds the response to this thread pitiful? I've taught many women to run boats and I've worked with a couple of female captains. They're good. This response of 'there's a couple here or a couple there' tells me that this industry still hasn't found a way to tap the female market. At a time when boat sales have been down I'm amazed that the industry hasn't been making huge efforts in this department. It's like they're afraid that if they direct their efforts towards the women they'll lose the male buyers. I mean it's not like their time has been swamped with male buyers. Besides, ****ed if I'm going to lay out 100k+ without consulting my wife. In fact you'd stand a better chance of prying 100K out of my wallet if my wife came to me with the original idea.

This reminds me of the car market back in the 1950's & 60's. Look what happened once they figured it out. Maybe we need to get the pretty girl greeters off the dock and the women into the sales offices.

Female boat owner or skipper

There are a lot of boats in the Med, that are owned by females. In my harbour in Mallorca, there is a 60 ft+ sailing yacht owned by a northern European business lady. On races, she always sails with a complete lady crew. No man (male) makes jokes about them anymore. They have a strong tendency to win those races, one might say.

The gender of an owner, of anybody applying for a job, a position or even a had of state is of absolute secondary importance.

- Maltese Falcon is owned by a lady.

- Phocea was owned by a lady for quite some time.

Most yachts in reality are owned by Ladies, called the "Admiral". My one is, I am only the skipper. Even the deputies of my admiral are ladies, my daughters.

In my company, I have a female Captain on one of the cargo vessels, her first officer is also female. She will get her own ship, as soon as her qualification is complete. I must admit, we have had problems in the beginning with crewmembers (of certain nationality and religion) not accepting a woman as her superior officer. But those man have left the company for ever, as soon as this problem came up.

We found out, that as soon as a woman became a member of a crew, the spirit on board increased measurably (And this is ment without any ulterior motives, gentleman !!) I am waiting for the first female chief engineer to show up and applying for a job. I know, there are some on training at the merchant navy college in Hamburg. Female chefs and stewards are standard on cargo vessels meanwhile.

In the 21th century, equal rights and oportunities for women should be self-evidently, at least in our western democracies. So self-evidently, that talking about it is pure nonsence.
