I found her in Bow NH left behind. She had an appointment with a tourch and we rescued her. I hope to see her in the water summer of 2012.

    ownership of an abandoned boat.

I have done next to nothing to this Roamer because I have not been able to obtain ownership. The boat was left on leased commercial land buy the former owner who owed the land owner back rent. the land owner gave me permission to remove her but the NH RSA's for abandoned boats does not give any direction for this specific situation and I have been tossed back and fourth from the DOT to the Police to the sheriff to the court and no-one is willing to say, yeh, you own it. My last ditch effort is to have my lawyer send a letter laying out what I have done and request ownership. If I can't own it, I am not even sure what I can do with it. I hate to cut it up, and I don't even know that I have the right to do this.

Anyone every run into this? Sure would be nice to see her sail again.

    Cheers!

Sounds like a step was missed by the owner of the land, i.e. filing a lien against the boat and perfecting it in judgement. You could have a more difficult time since no monies are owed to you. You'll now have to make a good faith effort to contact the owner before you can claim it as abandoned property, and he can easily reclaim it from you (thereby avoiding his debt) as he doesn't owe you anything. I'd get started on the process right away and use an attorney. Certainly make no improvements to it until you have clear title.
