First post! So I am the proud new owner of a 1995 Carver 355. Great layout! As I go thru the boat I am running across a few things that I cannot figure out and am hopeful you guys can help me some. There is a set of two light switches as you enter the salon from the deck on the right. One turns on the salon DC lights. The other (one to the left as you face it) does nothing and within a few seconds, the breaker trips. Can any of you tell me what this switch turns on so that I can begin the troubleshooting? Thanks for the help!!
On my 3607 that other switch turns on the lights under the bar and indirect lighting along the sides of the main salon.
Is the breaker that trips on your AC or DC panel, and what else goes off with it? (rarely will a breaker be for one switch only). My thought is that you may also have AC lights in the salon and it's for them. Otherwise my guess would be for indirect lighting or the engineroom lights as previously mentioned.
The light for the engine room is on a different switch panel. It is a DC switch that trips and some of the dc lights in the cabin go off when tripped. Thanks for the help guys.
Are these the switches you are referring to? (circled in red) If so, one is for your salon lights, (which you already know) the other is for your interior courtesy lights that illuminate the stairs from the aft deck (cockpit) into the salon and then through-out the cabin illuminating all your stairs fore and aft. Most likely you have a short and "should" be an easy fix. One such light is illuminated in the picture under the entry way. (circled in green) Hope it helps
Found the short.... looks like where the wires enter the engine room, the wires chafed against the firewall. This appeared to cause the short and the wires got so hot, the insulation has burned for a 2ft section. Now to figure out how to get between the firewall and switch to see how far up the wall the wires are burnt. Thanks again for the help
