Capts: My 50 Ton Near Coastal License has recently expired and I'm in the process of renewing. I want to raise the tonnage to 100 GRT. To raise the grade how much sea time do I need to achieve a raise in grade to a 100 license. I read the CFR 11.422 as only requiring 90 on a vessel of 34 GRT. Additionally can I renew my license and raise the the grade by proving my seatime at the same time assuming that I meet all other requirement? The confusion comes from the seatime requirement on the CG form show 360 days required. MASTER 100
    46 CFR

    Tonnage Calculations
    46 CFR

100 GRT – 180 days of service on vessels of 51 GRT or above, OR
360 days of service on vessels over 34 GRT
50 GRT – 1 day of service on vessels over 5 GRT.
    Please clarify.

360 days is required over the 5 year period you already had your license. If you don't meet that, you can take an open book rules of the road exam to suffice for renewal. As long as you hold a 50 ton Master, a 100 ton Master upgrade isn't an issue if you have the proper minimum seatime days on the appropriate vessel. As you stated, 90 days over 34 grt.

The 360 day requirement is for renewals, not upgrade at your license level.
