My 1984 52' Kha Shing does not have AC or central heat. I plan to add this next spring. Here in the Delta we don't usually freeze but we do get days in the 50s and nights in the high 30s. The boat sits during the week and when we go down for the weekend it's really cold and damp inside.

When we are there we use a ceramic space heater with auto thermostat and an oil-filled heater for the salon. The oil heater has a timer on in it and I was wondering if it is safe to use any type of space heater on timers set to low temps while I am away from the boat?

    If not....any other suggestins?

    Thanks,
    Shawn

NO on unattended electric space heaters! Used with care while you're onboard they can work well. Consider adding hard wired immersion block heaters to your engines. They tend to add enough warmth to the boat to keep dampness down in your absence, especially if you cover the engineroom vents.

Wholehearted agree. Check you insurance policy. You are probably not covered for a loss due to those heaters

Thanks Guys. I have been properly chastised. I guess I'll just get the AC units installed ASAP. I should have known there is no cheap and easy way out on a boat. (Sigh)
