(Tried both several times, but didn't work alas).

Read this on some Dutch (non-megayacht) websites, because of the relocation of Venus there is renewed media attention:

    In Rotterdam her propellers will be fitted;
    When finished and after sea trails she will be transported to the USA;
Pricetag mentioned on several sites is 125 million euros.

Prices of superyachts many times are wild guesses or exaggarated, so I don't know if they are close to the real amount.

(A Russian website states 90 million euros for an Amels 242, which is a semi custom boat. Don't know how reliable they are with such pricetags, but it's quite difficult to get good information on this subject, for obvious reasons)

Since yesterday she's in a drydock in Rotterdam, hopefully they will start sea trails soon. I really look forwards to seeing her go out to the north sea on her own without a tug and pusher:

I think she's already been on sea trails, couldn't find of video of her on the North Sea alas. They switched off her ais signal some days ago, can't locate her by call sign, name, IMO number or mmsi unfortunately!

I noticed a ais signal of her tug/pusher, think it was on Thursday the 15th, so I presume she left the Damen repairs floating drydock at that date.

She must have been photographed many times since then moving around the new Waterway/Rotterdam but apparently not many people upload their photos. Or they don't add the relevant tags, which makes it difficult to locate such pictures.

Ais is on again at last, she left Merwehaven in Rotterdam at 08.48 hrs, now apparently on her way to the Dutch port of IJmuiden, and then to Amsterdam as final destination? (If her ais information is correct)
I thought they would conduct sea trails from Rotterdam, but perhaps they chose IJmuiden as location?

Seems they added a large mast to the bow, or maybe it's retractable in the stainless steel triangle on her bow?

    Hi,

The last new build I did the sea trails on from De Vries was towed to Rotterdam, the props, rudders and stabs fitted and sea trails conducted on way to Ijmuiden which is the entrance to the North Sea Canal I think it's called, then we went to the Asia Docks to finish off and handover, we departed the day after handover and after a quick Med season went off around the world.

I would not like to undertake that journey in the vessel featured in this thread.

    quality

    Venus.
Its has the same quality as all other DeVries Yachts.
The yard spent allot of time making sure that its just as good or better than any of the others it has built.
I know it looks "ODD" but the engineering is really exceptional and its going to be a super sea boat.
We do not have to like the way it looks but we should all respect the fact that its am amazing machine, and that this is really one of the only yards that could make such a faaaaar out design function like a proper ship.

Thank you for the information, they seem to follow their regular pattern.

I have the impression you are worried about the use of glass in Venus' design?

One thing about the yacht that I haven't read information about: her tenders! I think it's safe to assume they will be 100% custom designed and built?

Has anyone seen a photo of the large stern hatch opened? I'm very curious if Venus has a beachclub or such, or perhaps they come up with another radical design feature?

Materials and technollogy have evolved in yacht buiding like almost everywhere else, allowing for new designs that where not safe just years ago. But that evolution, like any other, will have its ups and downs, not everything can be tank tested. Venus does not look particularly seaworthy, and hopefully we will never know that for real. It must have been difficult for the naval arquitects to argue with people us famous, repected and self-confident as jobs and starck.

She's now cruising up and down the Dutch coast (Roughly between The Hague/Scheveningen and the port of IJmuiden) on her first day of sea trails, quite fast too:

Would really like to see a good photo or video of her on top speed, but weather conditions in Holland now are very foggy/light rain, tomorrow wind of 9 beaufort is predicted...

    I suppose:
Many yachts never actually have to cross an ocean... being transported on deck of a delivery ship... if they have to.
It will be a hit at some boat show or many.
It will get some kind of made up award by some yachting industry org.
Many will while the shine lasts want to see it.
The owner(s) will not own if for very long.
It will eventually pass as a footnote to Jobs life and become passe'.
It will become like the Norman Foster yachts Rodriquez built a couple years ago.
    It will not be copied.
It will eventually rot away forgotten.

When A was launched, we were told we were entering a new era in yachting. In the years since, only Venus can clearly be counted as a follower. To me they both represent the end of an era, not a begining, the end of the crazy but fun designs, everybody had a new designs every other day. Mr. starck does nice furniture and interior design, but designing yachts requires learning and practicing, and the more the better. And it shows when you look at his yachts, a submarine and a floating piece of furniture, for no better description.

Like the Norman Foster yachts... which appear more practical to me.

True Felipe... the idea that you design a yacht by creating a profile view FIRST is a sure way to eliminate what makes a yacht successful in its purpose... unless that is to impress fools with a cleaver shape.

You start with the intended use... i.e. performance goals... then the required accommodation and support systems needed to accomplish both the use and accommodation requirements. Everything else follows hull form, structure, machinery, layout and the design, shape and style are the esthetic box it best fits into. Yacht builders, designers and brokers often use a pleasing design to entice the customer but when it comes to creating something that actually works for the client, and fitting it into that particular package, it is a challenge. You are better off designing the esthetic box last rather than first. The Apple yacht appears to have been an amateurs dream from a profile imposed on reality. It will become tiresome and be sold shortly.
