Colossal 1200-pound black marlin caught by tourist Douglas Perry off Opal Ridge, north of Cairns | The Courier-Mail I am not a competitive fisherman, but enjoy hooking up the big ones anytime. Looks like we are headed for a good season. I have my Hatteras all prepared; new fishing gear, impellers in engines & genny, new oil, coolant, new cables, bottom paint, etc etc. Let's go Liberty and Far!
Hi, Nice fish and to be taken by a Novice from Aotearoa must burn some in FNQ for sure. You list of preparations is good, I wish boating were that simple and predictable. Don't leave the toolbox, duct tape, tie wraps and other bush mechanic parts at the dock or the invisible man lurking in your bilges will surely announce himself with some little problem that takes the gloss off an otherwise perfect day out. BTW George, I will be passing through MEL on the way to the homeland in a couple of weeks, I have decided to give up on kite fishing and have bought a GPS Equipped Kontiki Torpedo Have you seen anyone using these in Queensland?
Haven't seen one of those dragons, looks very interesting! How about a dinner Mate? drop me a PM, any time. George
We are hoping to be in Tangalooma 1st week December (Liberty and Far welcome anytime). Other than that, there is a boat and room ready for you K1W1.
Looking forward to catching up Kafue! We're planning on moving up to RQ from Gold Coast on Dec 7. Any time after that we're on the water.
Hi, Kafue- Thanks for the kind offer, I have some pressing family business to take care of and time is short so my stop over in MEL is only long enough to have a couple of scoops in the lounge and re board for AKL. Liberty- Here is a promotional video that they have set for the European Area - It seems someone should update the fellas as to how many other languages are spoken in Europe apart from French. 01-Seahorse Europe film présentation - YouTube To put it in context, I have become a frustrated Kite Fisherman, the time I get to spend at home doesn't allow a whole lot of time to fish, the winds on the days I can make it are not always favourable so I have decided to join the ever increasing number of Owners of these things and retire the kite. As I am experiencing a second childhood - middle aged madness. I also enjoy throwing a line out with a rod, I am looking at getting a Quad Bike so I can get to places with it where my Nissan Patrol will struggle with the soft sand and or an incoming tide. The Quad Bike will be easier to get up into the dunes above HW in places where the Nissan wouldn't do so well.
LOL!!!!! That's a cracker. Tell me that was invented in NZ. We go to jail here for using more than one hook but you guys send out a robotic cast 500m out to sea and wind in dinner. And here I thought that deep sea dropping a single hook down 500m and electrically winding it back up was cheating ... That's too funny.
But I did get to have an amazing day on Quad Bikes off Lake Taupo on the Wanganui, flyfishing for the largest trout I have ever seen. NZ is truly a wonderful place.
vlafrank, where we anchor at Tangalooma is between the beach and about 7 or so very old semi submerged wrecks. If you don't anchor right things go wrong very fast, especially marriages. I have had 2 occasions where I picked up drifting anchors from very frightened boaties hurling over the sides of thier boats, had numerous times when I exited for calmer waters in the middle of the night (thats the marriage saving thing) and many other interesting stuff. The major shipping channel for Brisbane is a few nm to the West in quite shallow waters, so add this to any wind with West in it and a massive bay to build up nice tall, short interval waves and Mate, we are always on alert there. BUT, when Tangalooma is good it is GREAT. Hand feed the dolphins, turtles, awesome diving and great fishing where you can catch just about anything within a few miles.
We were there a couple of years ago when a humpback swam between the wrecks and the beach. There were a group of Japanese tourists swimming in the water with their eyes out on stalks!!
I reckon it's as good as the Barrier Reef on a good day. To have a whale swim past must have been incredible. We light up the boat at night and cast small Laser lures, lot of fun catching all sizes of Trevally. Watch out for the stonefish though there are plenty, I've seen them while diving and one surfaced next to the boat one morning.
Tape a large balloon filled with helium to your kite on light wind days, and you won't have any problems with it flying!
