Does anyone know of a replacement for the "T" bolts that swing up with the wing nuts that tighten down to hold the lid in place? I would hate to think I have to replace the entire sea strainer for 1 broke bolt.

    Thanks!!!

It sounds like you have a Perko sea-strainer......If so, Perko does sell the bolt/wing nut assembly along with the roll pin, they are not cheap.....around $35 for a 2" strainer, but you can order them through West and some good boat stores will have them in stock. The roll pin needs to be driven out with the appropriate circumference punch and the new one driven in, but it usually goes fairly easy.

    Part is called:
Hinged bolt for cover with pin, nut, and washer. (You have to figure out what # your strainer is, which is based upon the inlet or outlet thread size to order the right part)

Thanks guys, you are awesome! Yes it is a Perko, and I was HOPING that it was a pin that could be driven out, so I will be set.

Best regards to the GREATEST boaters on the web!

    How do I remove pin

I understand that I can use a punch to remove the pin, but I wonder---will it come out easily? Then, when I insert the new pin, how does the new pin stay in? Do I have to crimp the ends?

The bolt set comes in one bolt, washer, wing nut per bag. I picked up a "set" , thinking for the price there must be two bolts in the bag, went home to change mine out and discovered only one bolt in the bag. AND, there was only one bolt set at West when I picked it up.
    Another beer.

My pins looked near new, I did not drive them all the way out but just enough to free the bolt. Holding the new bolt in place, I used a pair of pliers to squeeze the pin back in place. Like a champ, nothing dropped in bilge, no smashed fingers. Working up-side-down, it still took just a few minutes.

Don't forget to pick up a new lid gasket also and lightly grease the threads.

That is exactly how my replacement went. Easy enough that I carry a spare bolt set to do while away.

T bolt pin on sea strainer

How did you get the pin out? I have tried small screw driver and no success. Is there a specific punch tool?

I purchased a new strainer however the existing strainer does not want to loosen and is attached directly to the through hull. I am nervous to really force the issue given that the boat is in the water.

    Thanks

On the cheap - try a drill bit of the same diameter as the pin with light hammering. Don't smack anything too hard or you'll be buying a new casting

You need a pin punch of the correct diameter. A screw driver is not a good choice because it hits inside the pin and spreads it out. Brownell's has sets for gunsmithing

This, find the largest punch (round) that fits inside the hole, and tap it with a hammer. They usually don't take much force to come out with the right size punch. They sell a set of punches pretty cheap.

    Got it

I used a star driver bit that fit perfectly. I used the old pin for it was easier to leave partially in and hen just tap her back in.

Thanks for the help. I will have many more posts asking DIY advice. Just closed on my 54 Hatt 3 days ago and I have a list of projects to do before summer arrives.

I haven't had the chance to shoot in years. There's a lot better quail hunting 3-4 southwest of where I live.
