After reading the post about bridge items wanted for a movie it got me to thinking about the most unrealistic nautical scenes in a movie or TV show.

I'll start off with this one.

Speed 2 (Cruise Control) - When the cruise ship's autopilot was hijacked to ram the ship into an oil tanker the hero has to hand cranks the bow thruster to turn the ship. Plus he has to dive underwater to do this.

    What's worst/funniest you've seen?

Captain Ron was pretty bad. Though the daughter and wife weren't bad looking.

    ps

Before anyone starts screeching, the daughter's character was 16 but the actress was 20. So chill.

Unfortunately I think Captain Ron may have been a lot closer to reality than not. I've run into a few people who could actually learn something from captain Ron. The Indiana Jones raft down the mountain was on par with moving a cruise ship with a hand crank. In Jaws most of the boating was ok. Just the blowing up of the oxygen cylinder was impossible (according to myth busters).

The umbrage I take with Jaws with respect to boating: I've never heard of a shark eating anything as big as a boat. The shark seems to possess a ridiculous intelligence and human qualities. I'm surprised the shark didn't have its own boat to chase down Roy Scheider.

    Hiya,
The shark in Jaws obviously escaped from the movie "Deep Blue Sea" where the sharks were genetically modified and became super intelligent. Duh!

hmmm , Surprised how nobody has mentioned James Bond " The Spy who loved me " .. but then again films are made to entertain , it's where dreams and imaginations run wild and when you watch those films for that period of time you allow yourself to believe whatever you want to believe .

When you loose sense of your childhood the end is nigh , Yes i like film i've watched plenty and the old films imo are still the best ...

    Perfect Storm is pretty terrible.

When George Clooney opens the throttle on an old Cat and the fishing boat accelarates up the wave like a Ski-Nautique. Hhmmm............

Apparently, he travelled back in time to be in the movie.
