It's also spelled macerator. A 36' may or may not have a macerator.

Doesn't necessarily mean that it has one. As stated, start at the tank and look for a 1.5"-2" hose coming from the lower portion of the tank. If there is only one, then it goes to the waste fitting. If there are two, then one goes to the macerator. In the event you find only one, follow it as far as you can to make sure it isn't equipped with a 'Y' valve. I have always found them mounted under a floor panel.

I have an 86 3607 with electric heads. The macerator is located in the base of the head. It is the square part of the base.

working macerator

If you have an electric head, there will be a switch to the left of the head. In my aft cabin it is on the vanity next to the vent fan switch and 110 plug. If you push the button, water should come in and you will hear grinding noise. If it is not electric, I can't help you.

Is it working

Forgot one thing. Not sure exactly what you are asking, but if you push the switch and the head flushes and poop ends up in holding tank it is probably working. If it does not grind things up, paper, poop etc. I don't think it will flush. Matter would stay in head.

That is the only thing ever mentioned in my manual.

Macerator

Usually a macerator is used for flushing black waste overboard not for "grinding" waste into holding tank. If you do have a macerator you will have a Y valve so waste can either be pumped overboard (when outside coastal limits) or sent to holding tanks. You will also have a seacock just past the macerator hat would need to be open. It would be rare for a 36 Carver to have a macerator since it isn't an offshore boat. If you can't locate but think you have one, your yard should be able to find it. You can then test it by putting dyed water in your bowl and flushing with the macerator. NEVER actually use the macerator in port and make sure the valve is shut. BIG fines from Coast Guard for discharging in port

It really should not be that hard to find a macerator pump (if it has one) in a 36' boat. Tracing the hoses should be easy, they're a 1.5" hose. Also you should know exactly where ALL of your seacocks are located and work them every single month so that they are free and turn. Generally the macerator pump is within a few feet of the holding tank.....but not necessarily.

My 37' is equipped with one. When not in open water, the CG wants the seacock handle fixed in the closed position...usually a wire tie is sufficient.

You'll smell it. Big time. And so will everyone else within a 1/4 mile radius

have a 87' the crap grinder should be put of you water closet Fwd and Aft. Fwd one pumps to the holding tank under the aft bench of the settee.There should be a Y valve there to, one way goes to thru hull behind port engine other way to pump out on main deck

Aft the same set up but the valve is under a deck access just a foot or so from the head door. Feel free to contact me, I've had mine for 4 yrs and have been all over it.

I have a 1988 4207 and owned a 1987 also and both had a switch but were not a equipped with a macerator.
