    Maldwin,

Thanks for your thoughts on the two Huckins. I agree with you. The layout on the Atlantic is preferred for the staterooms, but the price on the 46' is very attractive and the stateroom layout is not awful. I also agree that the condition issue is paramount. We will see both boats at the end of the week.

As for Bucktide, the 40' Huckins in Ft. Walton - The boat had sunk, the current owner bought it and restored it very well at his own yard. Some changes done to the original design concerned me, such as the moving of the fuel tank to the starboard side rather than leaving it centered as original. I can't believe a full tank off center wouldn't damage the ability for the boat to run true and not list. There were a few other issues that bothered me. The main issue I will send you off line.

Another Atlantic worthy of consideration is the 53 Atlantic, built as SPINDLE, which is at the Huckins yard. She had a very good 20 yr owner, and is in very good shape.

She is indeed a beauty! However you are leading me in the wrong direction price and size wise!

I will be interested in hearing your thoughts after seeing the two boats next week. I prefer the Atlantic layout, but the 46 is much easier to single hand, and may be a better buy.

Downwind had been surveyed, I'm awaiting the report, then I will go up to CT for a sea trial. Nice boat, lots to be done, but thus far nothing structural. Electrical and mechanical await working batteries and sea trial. Lets hope for the best. She is a sweet boat.

    Thanks Maldwin,

The report is in hand and soon we will do the sea trial once the boat has been commissioned. She's been on the hard for at least 4 years so there is work to be done.

You kindly gave me the name of Paul Haley as a surveyor. Found out he and I were friends when were were young boys growing up in Marblehead. He was unable to do the survey - too busy, but nice to be in touch with him after many, many years.

I don't know if the boat will be at Mystic, but if all goes well it would be great fun. Will you be there?

    George,
I am glad you reconnected with Paul, and that all is proceeding well with DOWNWIND. I will certainly be at the Mytic show as I am a judge, and I know many Huckins owners and afficionados will be there, so you would benefit from a lot of Huckins experience.

    Hi all,

Does anyone here know anything about the current condition of the 53 Atlantic Watermark?

Last time I saw WATERMARK [about 1 year ago?] she needed a full exterior paint job and varnish. Interior cosmetics were very good, as she had a lot of recent interior refinishing. I don't know her mechanical condition, but she has been sitting for a while.

    Rebel vi

REBEL VI stopped for the night a couple of days ago looking very Bristol. She is a 1966 64.6' Huckins that is being well cared for. A late model 63' Sea Ray pulled in next to her later and the dichotomy was striking.

Will the Huckins of this world still be that good looking 46 years on or will we consider the Sea Ray to be a classic?

    In comparison:

Hukins = Cord coffin nosed coupe
    Sea Ray = Edsel.

    Both have their admirers.

    Surveyor for a Huckins

Does anyone have a name of a surveyor in the Galveston TX area that could survey a 60's era cold molded Huckins?

    Which Huckins up for auction?

Would anyone be able to identify, and maybe share some info, on the Huckins up for auction at National Liquidators. She was up on Yachtworld for a while at about twice the price I think. Big project boat or ... really really big project boat?

    Huckins hits reef off Mexico

I was looking at a 1989 70 Foot Huckins sportfisher Lucky Hooker, formerly the Clam Digger offered by Long Beach Yacht sales. Boat was in rough condition with surveyor 3 page list of recommended repairs. Still at 200K with recent repower to Cat C30s not a bad buy. I knew I was going to drop another 200K to bring it up to Yacht Quality.

Issue with sea trail led to do futher investiagtion, bad vibraton had us look into bilges to find several stringers cracked and hull moving up and down.

    Bank Never Disclosed
Found out from another source that boat had hit reef off Mexico some 700 miles south and the captian and run the boat to Long Beach before fixing. It apears Bank of America did cosmetic fixes to exterior but did not address the cracked stringers mid ship and near both struts.

Boat yard said damage to hull core might be extensive due to vibration running boat for so many miles. They also spotted cancer above the water line.

Why do you think they accepted a $200k offer on a 70' SF with 3412's? I take it you passed?

    I somehow missed this,

    neptune 45 1953 hull# 45-277

    chuckb
I think I may have this boat but not sure. The hull number is 45-277 and current name is WINE/AWAY LOCATED IN FORT MYERS in fresh water. it sounds like the same one although I know of no major hull problems found on her. It too had the transom replaced and is in great mechanical condition with all new wiring twin diesel engines and diesel generator. If it were the same boat is 39,000 to much. If you PM your email to me I will send you some pics
    Thanks Mike
