You probably won't hear from any underwriters on this.

But, unless the boat policy includes a clause that states a minimum manning requirement, that won't be part of their strategy to avoid paying the claim.

Unless they plan to change the entire boating industry forever as well as have the USCG rewrite the CFRs, they won't go into court claiming that single operator movements are dangerous or reckless.

I understand your concerns and questions about insurance, but aren't those concerns clearly stated in a yacht policy much like range of navigation? If so stated the vessel must be crewed,so be it.

A very good friend of mine is a full time, liveaboard, professional Captain on a pristine Burger MY and he transits it regularly from the US to the Bahamas alone. Now I will admit being a converted commercial fisherman from New Orleans he is not your usual Yacht Captain, but he is an excellent boatman, that maintains that Burger himself and his owners,"two lawyer brothers", never question his judgement and neither would I. Off hand I can also think of two more professional full time skippers on sportfish here at our marina in Hope Town Bahamas that do the same. I guess my point is that this is done a lot more than many folks realize, but we all use the same prudence.

You're probably right Marmot, but I still wonder. It wasn't that long ago when they wouldn't bother pulling a boat up from 180' to prove a respectable doctor sank his boat for insurance or fight a claim for a blown low hour engine with such expensive vigor like a case I was recently involved in. I just wonder if someone won't soon read the words 'We feel this could have been avoided if....; therefore we'll only pay__%'

Until they put their "feelings" into an exclusionary clause I thnk they will just have to settle for a group hug.
