So Carl, what am I missing about your post?. Was this a raid on your site?

A raid on YF? Not hardly. But I bet a few mags in the biz would like to see this happen. ;)

I think you do a great job on the forum and keeping it a good forum, considering there are so many egotistical males visiting and posting here :D

Admittedly, I have a very dark, warped sense of humor, and I gotta tell you- I honestly laughed out-loud at the "Kiss my ass, you arrogant prick." line.

Being an admin is a thankless job.

My $.02: I wouldn't be comfortable saying this to a potential new client's face so I wouldn't use it in an email either. They asked for an honest explanation of what is an intentionally vague statement that is easy to misinterpret so I can see why they would respond so negatively to this statement (not that it was appropriate or helpful to do so). Would you they have responded differently to an explanation as simple as "What we are looking for is a solution to a math problem" instead of "Do the Math!"? Probably.

I love this forum and visit it every day but I do experience a bit of hostility in some member's postings. It has gotten much better since last summer's flame wars but to keep and attract new members, a softer approach would probably have served you better.

Then again, I live in Seattle where passive aggressiveness is a well practiced art form so

I guess that's because all of the members are too busy to bother with flame wars.....LOL

    What species am I?

What answers do you expect when asking your Human Verification Questions?

    Seventy-two coupled with 27 is...
    Seventy-two on top of 27 is…

Coupled.. First thought was porosity values and trying to make sense of the question. Adhesive temperatures and viscosity?

On top: First thought was fractional. Then perhaps it was a clue to the answer of the first question. On top of + coupling. Those two terms of course led to the thought that sometimes I'd rather be on my back on the bottom looking up and enjoying the view, especially if she's 27.

So, now that it's been determined by a computer that I'm not human, what species am I a member of? Turing should have been shot, see what he started.

Got the same problem, I may not be human (my wife would agree) and when I see coupling I think of 2 dogs fornicating. :D

I hang out at a dozen boards and have seen different "entry exams":
Some ask what you should know if you are say a sailor? (How many masts on a ketch) Pilot board: How many engines on a 727?
    Etc

To demand answers to math questions from a bunch of boaters is probably not a good idea, we either get hostile or confused..:p

In a previous thread titled "battle the bots", we talked about no-spam questions and I felt it was best to stay with math questions because we have a very international contingent visiting YF.

    http://www.yachtforums.com/forums/g...10788-yacht-trivia-questions-battle-bots.html

Just so everyone knows, bots have been able to break ALL of my no-spam questions, many of which were listed in the link above. I'm open to "international' suggestions...

... especially if they keep stupid humans out! :D

    Hi,

I have just registered at a car forum and had to write my Raison d'être in english in less than 400 words as a part of the registration process, my membership was not approved till it had been viewed by a human.

I couldn't answer the dumb math question either.

So my question would be a true or false one.

    True or False.

If big boobed girls work at Hooters, do only one-legged girls work at IHOP? :D

Have you looked at Recaptcha? Perhaps with an explanation on the sign up page, of why the process is necessary and why recaptcha is being used, those of us of an indeterminate species, but decidedly non-bot, might look at the process in a happier frame of mind.
Digitizing books is a worthwhile project. Having Thucydides' History of the Peloponnesian Wars on an iPad beats carrying around the actual book.

IMHO - Anything of value on the net that is offered for free should not be easy to acquire. To me, my free membership in YF has great value. I try to pay for it with intelligent participation. If one is not equipped for such, best that Admin knows that up front.

    I would guess false.

    Why?

Because three-legged girls working at IHOP wish they were big boobed girls working at Hooters.

    Did I do the Math correctly? [ 3 - 1 (IHOP) = 2 (Hooters) ]

The one-legged girls working at the U.S. IHOPs are called 'Eileen', while the ones slaving away in the Tokyo locations are known as 'Irene'.

I'd wager that no existing bots are capable of such sophomoric humor as that.

    Hi,

The time at the bottom of your page will depend upon where you have set your location to in the USER CP regardless of the statement about EST.

I am UTC +1 and my time said the EST bit then 17.32 which was the time I saw your post just after you had made it.

This may look like an orphan post but there was one by PropBet that asked about the time differences.

Yep. I figured that out after I posted it.
I hadn't updated the time zone in my CP after relocating.

For what it's worth, I think this is one of the better run forums I visit. Though I am glad you started the bot questions after I joined. Oh, and if he can fire off such a rude crude email with so little provocation the forum is probably better off without him.
