    Hey Folks

Last year Navionics released a terrific iPad app, for among other areas, the East Coast of the US. It was a great tool to use both on and off the boat. It seems they have shut down that app?? I can't connect using my icon, and I can't find it in the app store. Anyone know what happened, or is it just my technical ignorance?

Ah, it's probably me. I hit the icon and nothing! I went up on the app store and it doesn't seem to be available. I'll do some research. Thanks guys.

Which droid tablet are you all using? Would you make that choice again? (w/r to navionics)

Same here. My droid is a phone. I have been looking and thinking about a Samsung tablet though. Any intel from a Samsung tablet user would be appreciated.

The Acer Iconia looks pretty good at only $299. Biggest "con" reported on cnet is that it's a little heavier than the rest of the pack. But in a harsh environ that may be a "pro".

It runs "Honeycomb" which is one of the android variants endorsed by Navicon. Sure would be nice to hear from someone with such a setup.

my son went thru three Samsung Galaxy's in 4 weeks due to battery failure and each time the store said they were getting alot back.

Stick with an Ipad and for an engineer I find EarthNC for $19.99 is good for the Ipad or Iphone but I am not driving :D

Eric, I know you're asking specifically about the Samsung, but I can highly recommend the ipad. Both are user friendly, but you'll love how intuitive the Ipad is.

If you are in no rush to buy one, Apple historically has updated the ipad for mid march and all of the rumors point to an ipad 3 making an appearance pretty shortly .

iPad is probably the all around gold standard, but I can understand people not following the "flock". My son is one of those. As an engineer he thinks iPad is superior, but he refuses to become one of their customers!

BTW. Still trying to find out why I can get the old navionics on my iPhone, but not my iPad

When you say "old Navionics", I'm not sure what you mean. If you go to their site, there's a link for the current software available specifically for the iPad. Is also available directly from the App Store on your iPad. It's called the Navionics Marine & Lakes HD. It's available for many portions of the world, just pick what's applicable to you.

If you need more help, PM me and I'll send you the links.

Indeed Navionics has a newer HD that includes marine and lake, but a year or more ago they sold another app called US east coast. I have that downloaded on my iPhone and iPad. I can still access it on my iPhone, but I can't connect from my iPad. Navionics may be phasing this version out and i need to up grade, but I don't know that. More importantly, I am fairly ingonorant on this stuff and I am probably doing something wrong or changed a setting on my iPad. Thanks

When you go to the app store, it should show the version you have installed and the new versions available (marine/lakes HD). I ran/run the older version you have on my laptop and it still works fine, not sure why it's not working for you. You can try to reinstall it, if you find it in your app store (it should say "already installed").

All of that said, I would still upgrade to the new HD version. It's an incredible difference. The added features are awesome (too many to list here), plus the image quality is greatly improved. Sure, it's about $50, but well worth it in my mind.

Back to the discussion on best tablet for Navionics - I'd still like to hear about anyone's experience using an android tablet. Here are my problems with the Ipad

    1. Double the price (of Acer, etc)
    2. No video out option - Most of the others have HDMI out to display on a larger flat screen.
    3. No memory card slot - if you want to give someone some data or a photo, you have to email it or sync to a pc and then xfer to mem card
    4. No way to directly print from an Ipad
    5. You can load apps ONLY through the ITunes store. With android, you can store apps (for example) on an SD card and install/uninstall anytime.

Ok. Contacted Navionics directly. They have discontinued support of the older version. I must upgrade to the marine and lakes version now available., which I will be doing. I recently upgraded my iOS on my ipad, but not my iphone, and the older navionic app doesn't run
on that system. Thats why I can open the older app on my phone but not my pad.

So if you have that older version of the charts, it may be working, but it is not being supported or updated.

    Thanks guys.
