    I heard the 141 Swft frigate conversion was finally launched at owner's request (2 years late) and will be slipped again for completion,

    Has anyone seen photos

    Many thanks to kligon for posting the photos. I wondered how these conversions (I believe that 2 ex. military vessels were involved) would turn out.

    I'd agree that it is odd-looking, but no more comparatively than say the 119m M/Y A .

    In both cases, we have yachts with huge super-structures (what looks to be a glassed-area forward with a height equivalent to 2 deck-levels in the case of the MARS 141), completely devoid of walkways, side-decks or equivalent. Myself, I pity the deck crews who have to maintain these areas, probably on an almost daily basis, compared to high-rise buildings and other sky-scrapers usually built on terra-firma, where the windows are cleaned only once a month or so etc.

    As a former "yacht-scrubber" in my early days, I can only suggest that the exterior designers responsable (together with the owners who approve their drawings), be made to wash-down and otherwise maintain such inaccessible yacht super-structures, at least once. Preferably without any safety-harnesses...?! :rolleyes:

    However, I do like the "chalet" on the upper-most deck (or is that a hangar for a mini-helicopter)?

    It's the same ship, I was briefly involved with the project kick off when called in during the demolishion phase in Dubai Navy yards to survey the ship - weapons surpport structures and bulkheads ear marked for removal.

    Amazing fact was the vessel even made it past phase 1, the demo work was by private contractor and navy team, no coordination, no plan, no fire control, no fire watch all while guys were hot cutting with the ship still full of linen, lube oils and tons of loose flamable garbage.

    Hi Airship, could you post the 119m jpg, I'm based in China these days and some sites we just cannot access.

    The Chalet was originally intended for a helo, but there has been so may design revisions since first concept who knows...

    The ship (frigate phase) was delivery with two stage turbines and the conversion included the turbines (replaced) as primary drive. This plan was later scrapped for big diesels although the hull was not structurally designed for weight/stress and vibration of diesel power.
    Will be very interesting to see how the re-engineered ship does perform.

    Agreed, washdown team will propbably be a Filipino crew swings on ropes (crew compliment 60)

    Wow. Thanks for the confirmation. That is quite a change. Although as some have said the exterior, depending on your point of view, is not necessarily for the better!

    Ahh the ambiguous A by the master ship designer Phillippe Stark who really should have stayed with fruit quishers and furniture. I also had a very brief encounter with this project via a very short lived contract with the equally ambiguous Greenline Interiors Dubai

    finally something new. As project seemed more interesting than result. Actually the other angles of other pictures, the thing is ok, pretty different and ultra modern. I am still not sure if I liked. At least is ODD !

    Maybe the yacht has some sort of power wash system for the windows. I agree that it looks like a maintenance nightmare. All too often, designers don't think of service and maintenance when developing a yacht.

    i have been working on the swift 141 for about two years doing the interiors in a workshop. the work is amazing what has gone into it.

    pictures would of been taken for portfilos, people in the workshop keep records of work they have done, and i guess pictures for designers. im sure they will have a magazine spread when its completed i can't wait to see pictures of it complete. wish i could go on board lol.
    you know of many smart projects going on at the minute
