Does anybody have a good reliable aircon guy in Sag Harbor?

We need a service and a pressure switch changing and are struggling to find someone that returns calls.

Thanks guys, Richard is out of state so I will try Tom.

On the whole I am very disappointed by the service you get generally here in Sag. The staff here at SHYC are exceptional but they seem to be exactly that, an exception. People don't return calls and don't seem to want to work, I was shocked at how bad the service was at Malloy and they had the nerve to charge $1,000 a night!!!!!

Note: Richard did return my call, yet to try Tom.

Welcome to the Hamptons where people pay a fortune to be ridiculed and abused and seem to enjoy it. A place where people will pay $250 for a steak and brag about it:D :D . $10K nightly bar tabs are fairly normal.:D :D There are still some good people left though, although they charge in accordance with Hampton's foolery. You have some old LI next door to the YC at Sag Harbor Yacht Service. I've recently been aquainted with them since they're the Yanmar guys. Old syle boatyard and chandlery. Good people, but don't go in with a Hampton attitude. You can also get more reasonable dockage and a little less Hampton attitude over on the North Fork by Greenport.

    Hi,

I am surprised by the fact that a member here with some reference to Sag Harbour in his screen name has remained silent throughout this request

I've actually spoken for him in a way. He's one of those I went to for a reference on Sag Harbor Yacht Yard. Other than that, I doubt he wants to bite the hand that feeds him. Most everyone knows that if you're cruising the NE you're stopping in Sag, Newport or Nantauket, and only one of them has competition on their minds. Sag and Nantauket are happy to price out the rif-raff.

Had an air con problem couple of weeks ago, nobody in Nantucket... Stopped at fairhaven shipyard on the way to start a charter in new London, got it fixed in a couple of hours...
Sometimes it s easier to move 20'or 30nm and get good service

Just like fuel... Paid 3.85 (w tax) at the barge in Newport, price on the pump in Nantucket was 5.80...

    Hi,

Cap, Is price gouging enough to drive people away, I was aware the aforementioned poster did a lot in the area maybe he just thinks a lot of himself.

AC and refrigeration can be a dark art to the unknowing but it is pretty simple once one gets to grips with a few simple gas laws ( I might be biased being an engineer who did my time on reefer container ships)

Price gouging is all relative. If I need gas to go to work and you hold it for a kings ransom., that's gouging Sag and Nantauket are where the elite meet and greet. They make rediculous amounts of money for doing rediculous things and are happy to pay rediculous amounts not to be berthed next to a 1986 28' Bayliner. The aforementioned marinas, and even more so the Waterfront are mear steps from where you'll have dinner, buy art and wander safe streets in an old whaling town turned Hampton.
Dan can think alot of himself. The waterfront is pretty locked up there, and he's managed to keep himself very busy. Hard working guy. He's also done pretty good at not developing that Hampton attitude. There's a lot of people there whose hands are stuck in the cross-my-palm-with-green-or-I-don't- know-you position.

I think the cost of doing business is the biggest factor to the pricing. You've got state income tax of your income, rent, etc etc etc.......Plus getting to and from Nantucket on the ferry etc etc......

It's a factor, but nowhere's near the biggest factor in today's business anywhere. Companies charge what they think they can get. There was a time when a 33% profit over cost was considered pretty good. Now most companies are looking for upwards of 150% and some are looking for 500% or more. That's just the world were in. If I see you overcharging people, I'm going to overcharge you. And so it goes. I remember a business guy in Ft. Lauderdale once told me that, as a tourist approaches he sizes him up to figure how much money he has, and then calculates how to get every last dime.

And yacht captains are no different... Are you?

Why don't you just move to cuba since you seem to hate capitalism so much... Enough *****ing about those evil rich people, you sound like our president... Who is also very happy to take their money for his campaign, just like you do when you drive their yachts

Darned straight I do the same thing (I learned at the feet of my employers), and it gives me a good laugh when people with million dollar toys object. I do try to slip in more fairness than some though. Service is still more important to me than the money. I also don't gouge. My rate is my rate. It doesn't vary with how bad a pickle the owner is in.

That's ridiculous. Some of my wealthiest customers get charged the least. It depends on how nice they are, how well they treat me, how needy they are or how much work above and beyond there is (whether or not I am doing anything above running the vessel and what is involved with that), if they are tough to deal with and I need to add duties to my roster such as cooking for them, or they keep me up till the wee hours of the night consistently then I charge more. But how much money they have, does not equate to how much I charge them, unless they don't have enough to pay me then I don't take the job.

I agree that you sound like our current president. Do you realize that our current president has done nothing for you (the middle class), and has actually taken more money out of your families mouth due to his healthcare program making your healthcare cost more and pay for less......for example..... Sure, give more money to the poor......we'll give people 2 YEARS of unemployment......ohhhh we don't have the money.....well we'll just borrow it from guys like you who've been paying into medicaid and welfare their entire lives....... You should be THANKFUL for those rich guys paying our bills, not trying to overcharge them and give them a reason to get out of yachting!

Why don't they go after the 57% of people that don't pay ANY taxes? The top 2% already pay 58% of the taxes in this country, is that fair? The top 2% are also the people that gives everyone jobs.....people like you and I......last time I checked your guy making $50k a year sure as hell isn't paying your wage nor mine, nor do they own a yacht.........or a factory......or a business employing people.......nor hiring anyone to cut their lawn, clean their pool, clean their house, paint it, babysit, or any other job creation........

The instability of the president and government is the ONLY reason the economy hasn't rebounded.

What does any of this have to do with anything in that quote, and especially what does that 3 paragraph political tyrade have to do with anything in this thread. Go tell it to Bush or Palin. Maybe they'll care.
P.S. I had hopes for Obama, but since he caved last week there's not a single politician in any party that I have an ounce of faith in. Let the kids worry about it. It's their future. Mine's here. I don't give a flying F about what happens, and even less about what anybody promises.

Uhhhh NYCAP, you're the one talking about getting as much as you can get. How do you know the other person is overcharging if you're a 3rd party to the situation? But you'll go ahead and overcharge because you think someone else is doing it also. Someone's morals are their morals and they stay the same regardless of the other person, that is if you have morals. Believe it or not, a small percentage of millionaires became millionaires by stepping on other people's toes and ripping people off. That only lasts so long. Most millionaires actually worked for it and made it fair and square.

I charge a fair rate, but I worked very hard a few years back to raise the going rate in this area to a fair rate. However, in my mind the service is still only worth what it was several years ago. Unfortunately we've been ripped off so much in recent years from every direction, by companies saying let's jack our prices more than we raise salaries, that it has to be done. So I'm one of the very lucky who can keep up with the cost of living. But I give a lot of free services to people just for the purpose of helping them out. As for how I know about the moral fiber of the people I work for, come on. We don't talk. That doesn't mean we don't see and hear. And although I know several nice millionaires, I've never heard of anybody becoming one by being nice. I assume you've heard the expression "nice guys finish last". "Fair and square" is a very relative term. Does that mean they negotiated in good faith or does it mean that they didn't go out of their way to crush the person they were competing with. Does it mean they followed the letter and spirit of the law or does it mean that they didn't get caught exploiting a questionable loophole. I know several business people I trust, very few are rich.

This doesn't even deserve a response, but I will respond anyways.

The cost of living increasing is directly related to our dollar getting weaker due to the exponentially increasing deficit. The weaker the dollar, the more dollars it takes to buy raw materials, or imported goods, or anything. The more taxes and the higher the cost of doing business, companies HAVE to raise their prices just to remain in business. And yeah, the more they are taxed the less money they have to raise salaries, it's pretty much common sense. If someone takes an extra 10% from your income, are you then going to be able to spend more money, or are you going to have to cut back on things in order to pay your bills?

There are tons of industries where there is plenty of room to become a millionaire while still having competition, without resorting to being dishonest. But you seem to have it out for rich guys, and how evil they are, and how one must be dishonest to become one.

Just like sonic this country, with a D behind their name, you are oblivious to the fact the cost of running a business has gone up drastically in the past few years due to taxes, regulations, frivolous lawsuits and obviously Obamacare.

UnfortuntEly our community organizer in chief has never run a business in his life, not even a typical all American lemonade stand since he was not even raised in this country... He s getting a CEO crash course At this country s expenses...

Sorry about this thread turning political, but if you could leave your hate for the rich and leftist comments locked in your stern locker we would be having these discussions
