    Hey everyone,
I’m a fourth year interior Architecture Student, from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand.
As a final year paper we have to write a master’s style essay to prepare us for our fifth year.
I have chosen the topic: Manipulating space to fit architecture. It is in simple fitting interior architecture into non-square boxes such as a Super Yacht. I have been reading through previous forums and found everyone that uses this site very knowledgeable. I am looking for any kind of books that anyone would think are appropriate for this topic.
It is a very random topic I know but I have chosen it as I want to get in to get in this field of designing interior naval architecture when I finish my study.
Thank you, any information will help
    Rebecca

    Hi,

I may have a book that you may find useful (can't think of the name... I'm at work). But it basically gives you dimensions needed for areas used on a boat. eg, Height of bench tops, seats and stools, sinks etc. You may find it useful, and when I get home I'll post the title on the forum. Cheers

Out of print but Skene's Elements Of Yacht Design should be on every aspiring designers bookshelf.

    Hi Rebecca,

The book is called "Interior Design Methods for Yacht Design and the Boat Building Industry". By Lisa Hix.

I use it for a lot of design work from 30’ to 100m+, It has a lot of cross sections which come in handy as well, unfortunately it is in imperial... we can only hope that the American’s can change over to the metric system soon :D . Cheers

Hey, I've got my tape measure with both inches and cm's right here, have to use it all the time when I am trying to find replacement parts for those oddball sized European fittings that keep invading us over here, does that count?
    Cheers!

Lol! Yes, that counts Bill, I feel your pain. I even model all the boats up in imperial.

I'll see you soon, I can't wait for the flight over

I cant add anymore than the others Rebecca, but I would like to say that its refreshing to read of an budding interior designer who has already gained the knowledge that boat interiors are not, in fact square boxes.
I wish you the very best in your future...you have a head start over many who have come before you:)
