    Any advice about the best way to get a 50-60ft twin engined motor cruiser from Dubai into the Med. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

    Given the current situation along the Sea Route I would strongly recommend that a vessel that size were shipped to the Med.

    Thank you. I didn't think a voyage would be an option, but I wondered if (as I read somewhere) road delivery to the Northern end of the Suez canal was an option, or by ship as you said. Any ideas of cost? Thanks

    Sorry. I have no involvement in shipping. I am pretty sure that YF Member TKF40 recommended a company a while ago to someone that he had used a few times with good results.

    When you say by road to Nthn End of Suez I take it you mean across Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Israel on a truck. That is a heck of a trip.

    Please keep us posted as to what works out the best.

    Give Dave Holley a call at Peters and May in Southampton. Have shipped quite a few boats through the company and have always had good things to report. He has good knowledge of the region which may be beneficial if wanting to unload the boat in Egypt.

    Certainly would not recommend going by road! Taking a boat through that much desert in the middle of summer (or any time) would be tough on the boat even if wrapped.
    The cost would most likely be more then the shipping by sea, I would also worry about the quality of the equipment used for over land transport. Certainly the majority of trucks here in Dubai are ex cast offs of European companies. You would not want your pride and joy being driven 1000's of miles across inhospitable terrain on the back of one of these.
    I would also think that the height of a 50 to 60 footer even if the radar arch was remove would be too high for bridges and other obstacles as it certainly would not be on a boat designed transporter.

    From Dubai via Salalah to Massawa and then further north.
    A client of mine hired local security guards in Salalah and they stayed on board till Massawa.
    But maybe you already want the guards on board for the first stretch looking at the situation nowadays.
    Can't give you any more ino about these local security guards but I'm sure there's plenty looking for work in ports and marina's in your area.

    I know Yachtpath International has shipped many yachts from Fort Laud to Dubai and they ship a lot to the Med, they might be able to ship it from Dubai to the Med, try giving them a call.

    I would transport the vessel by road to Beirut/Lebanon and in Beirut you will launch the boat directly to the Med.

    Forget about bringing the boat on it's own hull to the Med. from Dubai. The distance is too long with many risks and too expensive and you will be adding too many running hours to the engines.

    You can ofcourse contact Peters & May and ship your vessel on board a transport vessel from Dubai to any port in the Med., which is the easiest and safest solution, but definitely more expensive than road transport.

    Thank you for your comment. The road route is what I had thought possible, but I have been unable to find anyone that does that trip. Any ideas?

    hi ,heres me thinking that would be a fantastic cruise , calm waters blazing heat and cheap fuel prices would mean a ideal cruise. i must re look into this as i was under the influence that 50/60 flybridges were built for this? im sure with gps / sonar / superglued to the cost line would be a safe passage. i would gladly assist you if you were up for the challenge .
