    The Erie Canal was to open May 1/11 but due to high water opening was delayed.
    The Erie Canal opened on May 15/11 from Troy NY to Brewerton Lock 23, the Oswego Canal is still closed may be another week before it opens.
    There are several yachts from the south heading for the Great Lakes have been waiting to transit the canal.

    Count us in as "one of the several", although we are still about a week or so out. Heading from FL. to Charlevoix.

    Go to Erie Canal web site www.canals.ny.gov/
    on top of page register for TRANSalert email.
    They will send you an email when there is an emergency closing of canal or anything else to do with canal that will interfere with you transit.
