If I ran that boat up I'd have stock in that bar by now. As to the taxes, if I can pay for a congressman's hooker or boy toy, I guess I can pay for that.

I'd bet you she is a sistership to Bruce Kessler's original Zopilote built by Delta Marine (Not the smaller replacement Spirit of Zopilote by Northern Marine). She's probably about 70 feet long.

Had the great pleasure of meeting Bruce Kessler last year. Sat down for a while and swapped stories. I was unable to keep up. He's a great story teller; first person or to a viewing audience.

If you have a small boat try the New River loop (New River up to the So. New River Canal south to the Dania Cutoff Canal east to the ICW then north through Port Everglades to Millionaire's Row). Add a stop in Whiskey Creek or the power plant for some manatee spotting. Very diverse and enjoyable.

When you get up to the fork by little Florida go left. When you get up to Pipewelders go left. As you come down the Dania Cutoff Canal there used to be a great place for stone crab. If they're still there maybe a local can add the name here. If not you'll probably hear the mallets smashing crabs. I thinking Rusty Nail, but I'm probably wrong on that.

HMCS (Her Majesty's Complete Screwup) Corner Brook (SSK 878) It was on the way back to the frozen North after helping to catch drug smugglers in the Caribbean for a month or so.

This is one of the Upholder class hunter killer boats that the Brits unloaded on the Royal Canadian Naivety with a great sigh of relief. The Canadians then proceeded to spend more to refit it than a new one would have cost ... well maybe not quite that much since the British taxpayer already paid twice what they were supposed to cost, but I think there are a lot of Canadian taxpayers who feel that way.

A sistership HMCS Chicoutimi (SSK 879) got wet and caught fire after departing the UK for Canada a few years ago. The Canadians were really p'd off when the UK tried to charge them for the rescue efforts. This incident would have been laughable had a crewman on the 879 not died as a result of this tragic event.

you are right about bruce. you get him and steve seaton in the same room and it can be interesting. they are both good guys.

I've seen our news papers write: "HMCS (Her Majesty's Canadian Screwup)." My cousin is a civilian employee working on HMCS Victoria (SSK 876) refit on Vancouver Island. He has mentioned working with Americans (both Navy and civilian contractors) from the Kitsap Naval Base. There is a joint funding agreement between the Canadian and United States Governments for Canadian Naval bases. So American tax payers are indirectly paying for those subs...................

Apogee, Princess Mariana, Helios, and Lady Britt, in Lauderdale

I snapped these photos yesterday while walking the dog. Apogee at 205' and Princess Mariana at 257' are tied up at the Fort Lauderdale Hilton Marina. Helios at 193' and Lady Britt at 206' are docked at Pier 66.

I really felt insignificant walking along side Princess Mariana. What a huge profile towering over folks on the dock being 5 plus stories tall! Her name badge on the port side was covered over with white plastic. Maybe a name change is in the works or perhaps she is trying to appear incognito? Her name on the stern is now simple black lettering instead of the fancy badge and logo of old. Gone too is the once prominent light blue water line stripping now replaced with a single simple elegant black line.

Still there in May? Cool. The docks are usually cleared of the big girls by this time. I'd have expected them to be on their way to the Med by now.

Princess Mariana must have just arrived. She was at Rybovich just a couple of days ago while I was interviewing a captain on an upcoming review.
