1964 36' Roamer
1967 48' Roamer (currently for sale)

Both steel hulls...when I decided to get into this last year I wasn't able to find a suitable aluminum hull that would fit my needs. Would have been nice since I am in the aluminum business...but steel is fine by me.

1964 36' Roamer

Here's the 36 making it's way to it's new home for a total refit and refurbish...still in progress. Things are going slowly, but being done the right way...very excited to see where it goes this winter, she has indoor storage adn should make some nice progress.

1967 48' Roamer

Here's the 48 Roamer...she's for sale if anyone is interested. Not in any hurry to let her go, but would consider offers.

I see a transportation pour one 36' ( beam 13' ? )
it's possible for a 56' roamer ? by road ( beam 15' )

Insurance on steel hulled boats

I just sold my steel hulled 44' Bruce Roberts ketch just months after I received a notice from National Marine Underwriters that they would no longer insure steel hulls and were canceling my insurance.

My current car insurance company, GICO, is insuring large boats BUT they do not insure ANY Chris Craft, and for no reason that they are willing to devulge to me except that they "dont insure Chris Craft boats"

For that reason I have been shying away from steel Roamers. though I would love to have a Roamer.

Where does one get insurance for steel OR wood hulled boats (there are some nice wood Chris Craft boats out there as well as a Mathews or two.)

Transporting a 56' boat

The problem with that big a boat is not so much the beam as it is the height. About 16' is the max, for all paracticale pourposes, and I dont think the big roamers could do that.

Steel Hull Electrolysis

Hello Forum,
My dad just bought a 65' steel boat. He is taking it home to the Great Lakes from Naragansett Bay in Rhode Island.
Does anyone know about corrosion protection in fresh water vs. salt?
Are there any signs or voltage measurements to be taken.
Any input would be appreciated.

If your boat is old enough to be considered a Classic - you can use Hagerty Marine insurance. Steel Hulls? No Problem!

Boat US insured our 1960 43 foot Steel Roamer, we just had to have a through survey of the hull done. They required that it be ultrasound inspected. Only cost $450 and then we had insuranse.
As a note: they used tape and made a 1 foot grid of the entire hull below the water line. Then tested the center of each square. that was all that was required. However definitaty had the area from the kel to at lease 6 inches done. Thats where all my thin metal was.

Is that the 48 that was at Pugh's Marina in Racine in about 2002? ws

What one would think from appearance to be corrosion is solid as normal steel. The yard had a grinder and sander on this and all is solid. Any ideas?
