    hi all
    I must say what a very nice web site .the info and pic's are just fablous.
    I am new to the boating scene ,looking to buy a nice yacht .
    I do have a couple of ?. I did a search and did not find any answers so here goes.

    1 how far from key west to cozmel mexico?
    2 bahamas to caymans?

    the reason for those ? is .I have this nice plan to do a bit of cruiseing ,like the sunseeker line for the speed ,perfer sea ray for the cost except sea ray does not have much range compared to sunseeker .

    any ideas would be great

    Hi and welcome to YachtForums!

    Before you invest in a yacht, it is a good start to buy a map. :) I have no sea maps over that area, but measuring on my world map gave about 350 nm to Cozumel from the Keys and twice that distance to the Caymans from Nassau.

    This is not a typical Sunseeker or Sea Ray cruise, but all of their bigger models can make it. You just have to include a visit to Cuba if the weather turns bad... ;)

    thanks for the info . at 350nm there are a couple of sunseeker's according to there web site,that have 400nm range depending on speed. the cuba thing could be a problem with the usa I think . as you are from across the pond cuba is no big deal.

    Hello,

    It is a great life and great passion to indulge, boat ownership. Big suggestion: Go to a Power Squadron Course and get some basic education in navigation and seamanship. Learn to tie basic knots. Learn a little about fire prevention and saftey equipipment. The trips you describe are major trips and not to be taken lightly. Learn weather basics. You might try a crewed charter first. If and when you buy I highly suggest you hire a captain to take you out a few times. And finally watch that wake as you go by me. Boating is fun but it can also be deadly. I also hate it when novice boaters get in big trouble and that makes others risk thier lives saving them when little education could have kept them from leaving Ft. Lauderdale 2 hours ahead of a strong cold front. Any idiot can buy a Searay and well act like an idiot out there.Hopefully you won't be one of them.

    I agree with you ,any person with money can buy and do as they please.
    take our highways ,they way most people drive it is a wonder more are not killed ,did you know 18,000 people die each year on our highways.how many people did from boating ?,scuba diveing?,etc.

    I am going to take all the course's necessary to be a safe boater.
    the reason I posted those ? ,was I do not like the idea of a crew and a slow yacht.the research I have done ,into long range cruiseing was slow and not much eye candy.
    I have since found out about a yacht called kingcat ,very nice speed and range.
    the info I have is that catamaran's such as the kingcat are very stable platform.
    have you any info you would like to share about catamaran's?

    Personally, I would not embark on a 350 mile cruise in a boat with only a 400 mile range. Too many things can happen in 350 miles that might require a larger reserve. A 500 mile range would be more like it - but then I tend to be over conservative. Luck. Dale

    after review ,the yacht I am cosidering is the kingcat ,range with extra tanks

    You might be able to operate the 70' Kingcat without crew(although I personally would not), but certainly NOT the 92. Consensus seems to be 65' is the largest size boat that can be SAFELY operated by one person. Just think about docking boats that size. You would need at least two people to handle lines and fenders in addition to the helmsman.
