It's been awhile since I used T-Mobile, but I had a lot of dead spots up & down the east coast with them. I've had no problems with AT&T or Verizon.

are you looking for WIFI or Cellular?

if Cellular, i've had good coverage on the East coast with ATT except in the swamps of North Carolinas but i doubt things would be much better with VZ.

I've also had issues around NY Harbor which is due to the amount of users there and teh increased network load from Iphone user. I heard ATT was upgrading its network and now with VZ offering Iphone i doubt their service will be better.

beware that everything may be different on the left coast.

USB is the most common type of adapter although i prefer a PCMIA card or an Express card depending on what your computer has since they dont' stick out as much as a USB device. less chances of damaging the port.

In the Pacific Northwest and BC, you are going to want to go with Verizon. It has the best coverage in my opinion.

I have Verizon and just upgraded to the 4g. It flies. I have gotten service in the swamps of the Carolina's.....10 miles offshore all over the east coast. Great service throughout the east coast. I did the entire great loop, Id loose it for a few miles here or there on like the Tennessee River or Tenn-Tomm......in the middle of nowhere...... but that was maybe 5% or less of the time on that trip. It works flawlessly and you can play on it for hours when you're underway.......

I'd choose Verizon because it's the ALL Over network.....hehehe.....
