I am starting the search for a used sportfisher. I am down here in Marco Island, Fl. I found a 1988 48ft Pace for sale very reasonably. It was owned by a gentleman who owned a marina and was meticulous when it comes to maintenance and servicing the engines etc. It has the 892 Detroit Diesels with major overhaul being complete on them and only 400 hours on them. The whole was boat was AWL Gripped. The engine room looks like you could eat off the floor. It could use a little "modernizing" in the cabin. It has fresh water making system, ice maker, deep freezer, two heads, underwater quiet exhaust I understand that the Pace was only built for a few years and based on the classic Egg Harbor hull. Obviously I would run the boat through a very thorough inspection. What are the thoughts on the Pace if it is clean, hulls in good shape and engines run strong? The price is right.......The boat weighs in at 40klbs Love to hear feedback. ....thanks.
Of course you're not dealing with a speed demon, but I'd consider any SF in this range that's well kept after 22+ years worth a look. She's been proven. Naturally, a full survey is needed though, and try to find some rough weather to sea trial her in.
Pace Yes..that is the one listed on there. Does it hurt resale not having the big name like Viking, Bertram, Hatteras, etc. or does it get to a point that as long as the boat has been maintained, runs and has no problems it should resale? Yes...this boat is in pretty good shape and as stated the owner used to own a marina and was pretty meticulous on the maintenance of the powerplants etc.
Of course the provenance (It was owned by a gentleman who owned a marina) adds a bit to its saleability as you can tell, noting it twice, but if the maintenance stays as it's been, a nice thing about a boat this age is that its value is based more on the general economy than anything else. All things being equal it should hold its value.
In most cases if you get a smokin' deal on the boat, the guy that buys it from you is probably going to get one too.
In todays market, I wouldn't wan't to pay that much for that boat considering the kind of deals that are out there for "name brand" sport fisherman.
I agree Thanks I agree with everything you all posted above. After searching......there are definitley some deals to be had out there on some nice boats.
