I wouldn't want to be crew on her, Period.

You'll have to either be out in a rolly anchorage or stuck on dirty cruiseship/commercial docks. She is too big to join in with the rest of the yachting community.

Not much fun for the crew at all. :(

It would be nice to have a 200 footer alongside to get some perspctive. Cruiseships make her looks smaller than I expected.

Actually I had a good perspective when she was here in Barbados. It is not fair to compare her to "Norwegian Sky" or the RCI and Carnival ships in your photos! I compared her when "Silver Cloud" and "Club Med 2". I was very shocked to see she was larger than Silver Cloud. Eclipse is HUGE!

There's no doubt about that. I remember when 180'-200' was huge. I think it would be cool to put one of the big boats I've worked on next to her. I'd have to stand back.

She is moving again - just passing the Virgin Islands - can't tell whether she stopped in Puerto Rico.

Saw her anchored off Gustavia this morning. Got a good comparison shot with "Four Aces" and the Benetti looked tiny. Will upload when on a better connection.

AMG, I see your point, in respect with the privacy. But the AIS service is of course available for the public. And if you know where the ship is, you can easily take photos.

For me, who am not only dealing with yachts, marinetraffic will be the main database for existing ships and I will promote and help to update this database.

Fine, I am looking at the AIS too, in real time, but seeing maps on where a yacht has been yesterday or last year is not that thrilling...

What kind of engines does she have?

Perhaps a couple of gensets for the azipod plus 2 powerful engines?

Just looking at the maps posted after your post, you can see that when she was in Sint Maarten she went straight to the cruise ship terminal.

Even "little" Octopus had a bit of a squeeze getting into the IYCA in Antibes, a marina made for big yachts.

How is Eclipse going to manage?

    Well AMG,

I just find it intriguing to see where the (currently) world's largest private yacht is spending its time. Since the AIS history seems to be short-term (one or two days) I thought it might be appropriate to occasionally record it on the Forum dedicated to that yacht. However, if the information is of no interest to other members, I will not bother to share the posts any more.

    Rod

P.S. Yesterday she left Prickly Pear Cays and now seems to be anchored off the North-West coast of Anguilla ;o))

I understand you, and when a new yacht is launched it can be interesting to see where she is heading, also to get a chance to take the first pictures. But I think we can not continue to fill a thread with maps that are already history. Anyone can follow the AIS in real time if they are interested.

Well said Lars. We wouldn't wan't the thread to be inundated with Maps...pictures is what we want and knowledgable information about the yacht...although the occassional map wouldn't hurt...but now it is more than 3 or 4 maps. If you keep going..we would have a page of maps.

    Hi Rod,

Please don't be dismayed. Your participation is welcome at YF. Lars is simply adding a little guidance on a subject that has been debated behind the screen. While AIS is public info, it's not info that many people are interested in following. More importantly, we don't YF associated with tracking vessels. For enthusiasts such as ourselves, the information is benign, but others may use the same info for less than benign reasons.

I have been contacted by captains and owners in the past, requesting vessel locations be removed from threads. For reasons of security and privacy, as well as respect, we feel it is best not to post vessel tracking charts.

    Hope you understand.
