    I would suggest that if the OP really wants people to look and see what is wrong he could do well to have the info hosted somewhere where it at least loads inside 2 yrs.

    We have tried to fix the problems, like get, but it costs a huge amount of money and time and ,who knows how long this will last?

    Interesting pictures and reports... Why all patches inthat hull in the first place? Issues out of the mold or improper lamination?

    What about the bottom? How is that holding up? Older Johnsons had solid glass on the bottom, I hope this one does

    we've had some minor fairing issues on teh 2003 70 that i captain, mostly around the struts and bow thruster tube. strictly fairing though, not actual separation between the glass and the gelcoat as seen in the first 2 pics.

    something went very wrong when this hull was laminated. How is johnson handling the problem? somehow i think we know the answer to the question judging by the website...

    hey at least it hasnt' fallen apart off shore like that bertram did last year :)

    seems to me that over the past 10 years, builders have expanded upward in built size too quickly. at the lower end of the market, you have company like Rinker, Chapparal, and others who used to build 25 footers now in the above 40' market. Sea Ray is playing in the 60+ range, like Silverton/ovation and Carver/Marquis. Even yards like Ferreti and Az have now pushed well into the 100'+ range... Johnson leaped from the 50 to 65/70 range to the 87 and a bigger one as well.

    yet the scales of the builds, the qulity control, systems, etc... are completly different and exponentially more complex, with much greater stakes.

    somehow i don't find stories like these and others like what with seen on Azimut, Ferreti Bertram, etc.. to be that surprising.

    2 years of writing in private, without answer.Month ago, our lawyers have already sent them an official letter with the proposals jointly conduct a expertise on the yard where the boat is repaired. Received no reply.

    ..... true. And truly sad. The interiors on these boats rivaled a number of prestige builders. If it were not for the 'wedding cake' trend, that quickly came and passed, Johnson might have continued. In the US, the distributors were Butch and Donna Richards. Nice people with good intentions, but very little factory support.

    So sorry to see your woes Mikl... :(

    Lawyers, money, more lawyers, more money.
    Then you may get some judgement in your favour and find the Company is a "Shelf" company and no directors guarantee.
    So now your $4million headache/heartache owes you even more, plus the TIME!

    SAD!

    If the answer was to only buy from reputable builders then it would be easy, unfortunately, that too has been proven to be a problem.
    Stricter regulations for the Boat Building Industry?
    Equals more costs to all.
    But it is bound to be needed now that so many manufacturers have moved their facilities to countries with little or no corporate regulations.
    I cannot build a $4million house without having my financial life on the line, so how come I can buy a boat with no real assurance that the builder is going to stand by his product?

    Lawyers, of course unpleasant and not free of costs for us. But our letters to the people of Johnson Yacht in 4 years did not respond. Such an attitude to post-sales customer care at Johnson Yacht.:(

    Attitudes sure get different when problems arise than when you bought. Bet they were like long lost cousins & best friends when the $$$ were still in you pocket.:(

    Wow. This is locking the barn door after the horses got out, but glassing is no longer a matter of handing a bucket and roller to Messrs. Hairy, Sticky, and Icky to get the job done.

    Along with that goes a change in attitude, that Messrs. Hairy, Sticky and Icky are not subnormal beings to be paid starvation wages as roller and wildcat fodder, but skilled craftspeople (yeah,some of the best glassers I've known have been female).

    Third, do the research to find a company with a total quality culture and a bedrock sense of ethics (read backing up your product all the way) before shelling out the long green. There are a few out there...... fewer than you might think.

    Fourth, real quality costs big money. Best materials, best labor, and best collective building experience. Wannabees and hucksters need not apply.

    I do not know what prompted Johnson Yacht Ltd, but we received a letter from them with an invitation to dialog . Not so bad in this world.:)

    Google Alerts are a wonderful thing.:cool: I'd guess they've read some YF and realized this thread is not good for them. Wish they handled things right from the start, but better late than never. Please keep us updated, good or bad. Good luck.

    A shame almost every acceptable settlement includes an ND provision :)

    Makes an ironic inversion in that saying "wish we don't hear about your troubles anymore" is not the "get lost" message one can read at face value but actually a "best of luck in getting the matter resolved to your satisfaction". Seeing how the site with the story is currently down, I hope for the best.

    We hope that our story is an exception in the business life Johnson Yachts Ltd. We do not pursue goals cause fatal damage to their business. We just want what they see their mistakes and have taken steps to eliminate them. We hope for their common sense. Therefore, we removed the site from free access to the negotiations. We are ready to respond privately to anyone who has questions on this occasion. Of course, we will inform here about the results.:)
