last summer , my wife and i bought a piece of roamer history. We bought the vessel recently labelled "the cursed yacht of cape cod". its a 1970 chris craft roamer 58' riviera MY. she belonged to evel knievel in the late 70's to early 80's.
ill go into details about being a cursed yacht another time!!
we moved aboard last summer and began her restoration. being mechanically sound, the restoration involves mostly cosmetic /interior work.
i just wanted to introduce myself and share in the glory of owning one of the finest motoryachts ever built!!
ive been to the roamers club website and would like to know how to join and show my boat to other roamer enthusiasts?

Wow, nice Roamer! Welcome. I'd love to hear the story behind being 'cursed.'

I'd love to see some interior pictures.

    "Evel Eye" Lives!

    Outstanding!
How many bridges can she "jump"?
But seriously, you now own one of the more famous/notorious Roamer yachts in existence. Congratulations, and welcome to our little club, "CC Roamers".
We've just recently moved to this spot on Yachtforums.com and the message traffic is really starting to pick up.
I know you have your hands full - and we have alot of answers for you: just ask away!
Roamer boat show-wise, we've only had one last summer - somewhere's in Wisconsin, as I recall. Where are you located?
Myself, I'm just south of DC in VA on the Potomac River. Other members live all over the country.
There are no dues to join the club, but if you like, you can purchase a Roamer Club burgee/hat/shirt at this website: http://www.classicboatwork.com/Shirts_burgees_hats.html
Q: Was the interior designed by Dee Robinson? Are there any other special "Evel" features she possesses?
IN any case, keep us posted - we're virtually on the edge of our seats waiting to see how this one lands. :p
    Cheers!

PS - Do you happen to know the hull#, I'm keeping a list of all known "survivors".
PSS - I'll be up on the Cape at the end of June/early July - in Falmouth.

thank you . heres the basic story behind her being labeled as cursed.

this boat , which was in the charter business, was involved in an accident.
a young girl fell from her decks as the result of a collision. the captain and crew,
allegedly, were negligent in her recovery , and the worst happened.
as a result of the accident and the surrounding trials, it seemes the vessel would never sell. newspaper articles in the area began labeling her as the "cursed yacht of cape cod". stating she would never sell!

that misfortune led to my good fortune as i got her at a great price.
my wife and i , as crazy as it sounds, believe she is cursed , or haunted, as we have heard unusual scratching noises coming from within the aft stateroom closets.
ive looked everywhere in her to find the source of these noises, to no avail.

i will load pictures of the interior soon.

    Neil,

Thanks for the background. Unfortunate story about the girl. I hope you find the scratching!

Looking forward to your interior pictures.

    That scratching sound

I often hear a scratching sound around the hull at night all so. I have checked for Rodents. NO sign of them .. I think that it is the steel ringing out a small sound and making it worse.. It is a bit odd and somthing i often lay awake trying to figure out .. Good luck with your vessel she is a beauty !! Al. ( Mine is a 48' steel.)

We had the same problem. I discovered what it was...an underwater intake for golfcourse sprinklers!

I was puzzled and annoyed for 3 years.

    scratching

I am starting to think it may be some big fish! yea that sounds obvious but it still has its own noise .. Allthough This weekend I did see a 4' GATOR in the marina.. Im sure that could scratch on a boat .. Needless to say I did not spend too much time in the dingy this weekend in cace his mother was close by !!

Sometimes a small (infinitesmal) dripping leak can reverberate in the hull - causing a much larger sounding "pinking" - something to look (and look) for.
    Good luck!

Sorry for the delay - it's been like this (crickets chirping) ever since the site was re-organized and we got filed back in the catacombs with all the other dead threads. Fear not, the Roamer spirit lives on in every boater worth his salt, and we're here to help.
    Hmmm,..., "Sea Genie", right?
We'll of course we still want to know how many buses she can jump. You, on the other hand are well-advised to GET A SURVEY before buying! There, I said it.
    Any specific questions?
    Cheers!

I found Sea Genie II on Craigslist a couple weeks ago. Big fan of Roamers since helping bring down Bon Moyage from RI to the 79th Street Boat Basin in manhattan back in 2006. Sad story.

I just had to look at the daredevil’s old boat. The hull doesn’t look terrible. Good bottom paint. But oh no, the interior! The front third forward of the engines has been crudely demolished. The entire rest of the cabin has been stripped. There are three serious leaks causing structural rot... but:

She could be saved. A previous poster said the hull had 6 “hotspots”... I have no idea what that means. There is no recent survey. Visually there was no corrosion in or outside the hull. The boat is a total refit, rewire, engines might be salvageable, bearings who knows, shafts - I expect the worst.

My question is, can I just get the hull thickness checked? And can anyone recommend someone to do it?

    Thanks

Be very careful with your hard-earned dough.

Boat is still listed, I'm assuming that hull thickness check didn't go well?

15-16 years ago I was watching her. Fixed bar-stools, mirrors and lights. Nice party yacht from the 70s.
On the hill, pickled and advertised as near ready to go.
Sorry to see her go down.

We also found our Bert. I luv allow boats but our ole Bert won out.
    Been on her since.
