I am an iPhone junkie and use it everywhere that we travel. While in the Bahamas for a few weeks at a time, I'm willing to pay the overages and roaming charges.
We will heading further down-island this winter and I am considering looking into a dual-sim card phone. Does anyone have any experience or advice?
    Thanks in advance.

I have been looking into it but yet to find someone who can really say "I jailbroke my iPhone using xxx and it works"

Until then since i don't like paying hundreds of $ in roaming I use a ****** prepaid cybercel phone !

If you come up with something, pls share !!

    Hi,

To keep a handle on call costs just use Skype on the wireless network onboard

I'm looking into a Nokia C2-00. It is a truly dual-sim phone which will allow you to use both sim cards simultaneously.
They aren't available in the US, so I'm trying to find a reliable source overseas.

K1W1- VOIP is a good option for when I'm aboard, but I like to be available at all times. A cell phone with email access is a great way to un-tether yourself from the boat.

I've had a couple of phones from China Vision http://www.chinavasion.com with dual SIMS. They worked well for the price paid. One went in the drink, and another my 4 year old got a hold of. I'm in the market for another, I just haven't done it yet and manually swap SIM cards when needed.

My Father has one, which I think is a Motorola, however I'd have to confirm it. He travels extensively to Europe and Russia and uses it quite a bit with a US SIM and a EU SIM, recharging the EU SIM as / when needed.

You can also check a EU provider such as Orange or Vodaphone who may have something off the shelf that would work well.

There are a couple of dual sim adapters for the Iphone around.

This one you need to have a case on the phone to house the extra sim and the adapter in. no need to cut down your sims though. see it here

this other type you need to cut down the simsl. see you tube video here

I have used the first one ok, takes a little to get used to switching, you also need to have an unlocked Iphone.

    Happy yachting
