We have a '85 Chris-Craft 410 Commander that needs new aft stateroom mattresses. My wife measured them and said they are the same size as twin mattresses. Does anybody have any experience replacing with non-marine inner spring mattresses? My wife wants to sample them before we buy to make sure they are comfortable. Any input will be appreciated.

Doug, my Dad replaced the twin mattresses on our 48' Roamer with standard twins mattresses and boxsprings quite a few years ago. They worked fine. You just have to make sure the inner coils are not regular steel as they will rust and start to smell -- could eventually stain. Remember, they will always be in a damp environment. We made sure the coils were stainless steel. There is a company here in Southern California that makes custom mattresses for boats. They're a little more expensive than regular. I will look for the name and phone number and email it to you.
