    Fellow trucker

I'll work on those pics Troy, but I'll have to warn ya, I've been un-employed so the work is slow. Lucky if I can pull a quarter out of my butt every two weeks. She'll get there, but at least for now she's mine and not in the scrap yard where they were gonna put her.

Quite a nice boat you have there! Five 57's were built that year, my uncle had #4 for many years,(kept it in Duluth for part of those years) so I'm quite familiar with what you have. I'm glad to hear you cleaned out lots of bilge dirt from the hard to reach places, that is a big reason why these boats rust out, gotta keep those bilges clean. Where in Duluth will you keep it? I'm often in Duluth, would like to see it in real life. CD

    Thanks Charlie,

I understand that the original owners lived on the N.E end of Lk Erie. The older pics I have posted is of the boat sitting on a lift inside of the boat house they had built before she was even delivered.
It will be a year or two before we get it back over to Lk Supperior. A guy told us of a nice marina on the Wisconsin side, I have it wrote down some where but other than that its up in the air. And like I said, we are a ways of from that worry yet. First I have to get her paid for.
Give me a call, it would be nice to talk to you more about the boat.

    Nice pix!

There are a lot of similarities between the big Roamer you've got and my 52' 1967 Connie.

I have been on a couple of the 57 Connies, never a 52, and one 57 Roamer seem like the same layout to me. My favorite boat is still the 57 Connie but my practical mind always talked me out of buying one. They are still fine boats and I always like the layout of them. I have a couple of friends that live on them, one in the Annapolis area and the other one up in NE.

Yeah, wooden boats are great but you gotta be in love with 'em. Great liveaboards.

    Question on this one

Hey there... we looked quite a bit at this boat when my friend was searching for a good roamer to buy. We had to pass because of the difficulty of moving this one away from where it is. Basically it's too tall and wide to drive without permits, power lines being temporarily cut, etc. Also too heavy for a helicopter crane, and there are no waterways to drive it out on.

Just wondering what your plans are for moving it? Middle of the night with lots of permits?

    Eric,

Actually middle of the day with no permits.
In MN. you can pull anything you want down the road with out permits. As long as it is being towed by a farm tractor, and you have a slow moving sign hanging on the back of it.
Hope to be in Deluth in a year or two with the boat and plan on doing a bit of diving myself.
Feel free to give me a call at 612-275-4492.

:) Boat IS PAID FOR ! YEA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next spring we will be hauling it 230 miles from Lk of the Woods, MN. to Lk Superior, River side marina, Deluth, MN. Then hopefully with a bit of work we will be putting her in the water.

Every one said we were Nuts, that we would never get it paid off, etc. etc. etc..... We paid it off $ 45,000.00 in 18 months !! 3 years ago we were broke and had almost lost our house.

My dad (and the rest of our family) has been treating me a bit like a dumb **** when it came to this boat over the last 18 months, so when I went up to make the finale payment, I stopped in and picked him up and took him with me so he could see the boat in person for the first time. He is going in for a triple bi-pass in a couple of weeks so I wanted to make sure that he atleast got to see the boat in person before the surgery. His first response when he looked inside the shed was %$#@%$^%^^%$# , we spent the night at the resort where the boat is and went back on it again the next morning. This time he began to realize just how solid the boat is, and how much of a difference just a good cleaning is going to make. Withen a couple of hours he was on the phone calling our relatives to tell them what a magnificent piece of work this boat is and what an awsome deal I had gotten on it. He said that he was proud of me for pursuing my dream so hard and having come so far in such a short amount of time. That alone was worth the $ 45,000.00.
My dad said that it took him the night to get over the shock of just how big the boat was, and that it just took a bit to absorb the whole deal. He grew up on Lake Minnetonka, MN. where Chris Craft boats ruled the water, they have always been his favorite. He actually worked for a company refinishing the old big wooden ones for awhile, but he had never seen one this big.

    Congratulations!

    Well done Puddle P!

I don’t want to sound off as though I am like a hippy from the “age of Aquarius”, however, fact is I just spent the last two days with my accountant and others sorting through the last year’s figures and planning the next years business.
    It is not to optimistic.
They DO NOT get the boating or what it means to me and the family, no issue, we are all different

Some people live by cold hard economics, logic and probably FEAR of what "may happen", these people often just watch their lives go past them not realising that without milestones along the trip of life, you have little to gauge on how far you have travelled, achieved, tried and maybe failed or enjoyed. No guarantees.

Then there are the people who go with their heart. Have courage to take a chance and feel the pain and pleasure of the journey.
These guys get to look back on the milestones, the experiences of whatever it maybe and they know how far they have come and how full a life they have had!

To be so lucky to have your Dad there and PROUD of the chance you have taken on something that has NO LOGIC is, as they say “priceless”

    Enjoy and be safe.

My 57' Roamer comming out of storage shed.

After paying off the boat, I had to move it out off of the old property and move it 500' down the read to another marina for storage (just for the winter).
