I read a favorable review about the new and upcoming Echopilot forward looking 3D sonar. Does anybody have any thoughts/knowledge about this product? The images shown on their website surely look a lotter clear than those of Farsounder and at 1/8 cost it would give Farsounder some serious competition. I understand it is more limited to shallow waters but a) it has a longer forward looking range b) isn't that exactly the purpose of using a forward looking sonar: in shallow waters.
Farsounder I have a customer using the Farsounder in a country where river charts are not available to foreigners. It is now a primary nav tool, since it is in real time. Distance typically 400 meters
That sounds pretty useful. That would give you 40sec warning at 18 knots and slowing down would give you more time in directly proportional relation. Do you happen to know the beam spread? (Would hate to turn into the bulk of the obstruction rather than away from it!)
Well if you re up on plane in waters that may get too shallow I can't help thinking that you deserve a good lesson
Precisely what I was thinking Lobo, thank you. Also, Pascal, many of the boats those of us on this forum work on, or otherwise sail on achieve speeds in the high teens without even being "up on plane", though my current ride would not be included in that.
