    Hi,

I just purchased Rhino and V-ray, and well to the point, the V-Ray is somewhat complex to use at the moment.

I was wondering if anyone has some settings that they would like to share? I’m finding the lighting to be a tough one. It either looks like its too dark, or there’s too much light?

Also, when downloading materials etc, is there somewhere that I can download items like cleats, nav lights, windows, teak decks etc? Cheers

    Hi Far,
welcome to Vray, the settings are indeed quite overwhelming at the beginning, but once you found a good setting, that makes a nice style and suits your needs, it´s the only one you will ever use ... here are some tutorials for a setup of the renderer and some lighting tips:

    http://vray.us/vray_tutorials/universal_vray_15_settings.shtml

If you need more, just google for vray tutorials, most of them are for 3dsmax, but the software and principals are essentially the same (though the buttons are in a different place ;) )

For the materials, this should get you started ... http://www.material-db.com/#show:materials ...you need the .vismat format to use in Rhino ... I dont know if they have teak decks, but that is essentially a matte wood material, with a different texture applied. ... have fun ;)

Here is one more tip ... rather render it a bit too dark, than too light and adjust the brightness in the image editing software of your choice. It´s way easier to brighten an image up, than trying to get rid of burned out spots. That is quite critical with a white hull materials in particular :D
  5. Hi Far,

your probably need good Plug-ins. See this Website and take a look also for Cinema4D Materials. Actually this Plug-in of Shades woks good as 3DStudio Max in Sketch-up & VRay, but I believe to work also good with Rhino, you are already using VRay. It is a Plug-in for Shading in VRay more or less. If you need the Beta Version of them, please talk with Kate over there. Regards and expecting to see your top profi designs' proposals soon. But the best software is still Alias!

atomare, or MKM, any ideas on page size? everytime i go to render it comes up with a little 1"x1" picture...? One boat would do that, and the other is fine (normal size)...? Cheers

Hey Far, I hope you have figured it out by now, since I don´t know what the problem might be either? ... Do you already have some nice boats to show us?

    atomare,

Mate I've been sick for the past week (last time was 08  ). So haven't really played around much. I did get the 76m (scaled) yacht painted, she looks mean. So this weekend I will be finishing off the display table, and laying down the teak decks.

Hopefully the net will be working to, so I can start downloading materials :D
