"Turkish shipyard Bilgin Yachts launched a semi displacement motor yacht Noor. The 37 metre custom build superyacht is scheduled to be delivered to her owners in January. Noor features modern exterior design created by in-house design team of Bilgin Yachts and interiors designed by Italian-based studio Hot Lab Yacht & Design. The superstructure of the yacht and her hull are fully constructed from wood."

Thoughts, anyone? Feel like you have seen these lines before perhaps? I had to smile when I ran accross this. Ten points to whoever names the designer or series that these lines are derived from.

As for the wood construction- I don't know quite what to think- maybe possible? Impossible? Thoughts are welcome there too.

    Wonder how this will go.

Turkish boatbuilders are pretty good in producing design rip-offs in wood...

I love wooden boats, but it would make me nervous to own one. (again)

A bit unusual for a mega yacht to be made from trees..

The 3700 series design by Omega Architects is soley responsible from bringing Frans and the boys back from the edge of the yacht building abyss. Heesen has built on this Omega design and expanded the same basic superstructure design up to 65 meters (Hull geometry changes from semi to displacement) but Copying that design in wood should be considered the sincerest form of flattery as its a hugly sucessful platform and sells like proverbial "Hot Cakes"
    Ten points for me...

Captholli, you are, of course, exactly right. . . Ten Points, well deserved. . . and also, apparently, the question about the wooden construction was, yes, it is quite possible, as according to an article, the vessel has been delivered to its owner already!

I wasn't actually aware that motor yachts of this size and design were being built in wood. I'll consider myself educated.

    :)
  6. For what i see in this pic, exterior seems all correct. I just think other colors would be nicier, but! Here is too far to see the details.

Well, it´s quite obvious that the in-house design team didn´t have much work designing this one ;) ... it´s like driving a replica ferrari, it looks fast, but on the highway you might look a bit silly with your beetle engine.

Though here they put quite some power into it. 4800hp, a top speed of 24kt and a cruising speed of 20 sounds quite drastic for such a big wooden structure? What I saw from the interior renderings the hull structure and window webs don´t seem to be much thicker than a steel construction. In the lounge and the full beam osr are no additional supports like I would have expected? Of course everything can be rendered. That´s why it would be nice to see some photos of the finished yacht. Any thoughts on how well this vessel might perform from a naval architects point of view?

Whatever the material, aluminium, fibreglass or wood, most yachts above 100 feet are terrible in high speeds, They are normally too heavy with all the bells and whistles people have come to expect in luxury vessels...

    Hi, Lars.
There is a slight resemblance to Palmer Johnson's PJ150.
Don't know how they used the wood. Laminated, resin-impregnated wood panels, I guess.
The use of wood doesn't inspire confidence and safety.

That´s an interesting link AMG, ... there are actually quite some wooden boats of this size out there ... http://www.galayachting.net/motor_yachts.html ... so I would be interested in hearing about any experience with wood/epoxy vessels above 30 meters from an owners, crew or captains point of view?
