We want to get back to boating after a lapse of a few years and are considering a Marquis 420 SC. Any info would be much appreciated. Previously, we had a Carver 53' and loved it after we added a stern thruster to her.

With the passage of a sales tax cap in FL, our desire to get one of these beautiful boats is stronger.

    A stern thruster on a 50 footer??
The 42 is the woody woodpecker boat, isn't it?

well remember the cartoon character? with the little black streaks on top? well, that's what the Marquiw 42 reminds me off... too busy "style"wise for my taste like that angular line on the transom lifted off the new caddys :)

It certainly doesn't get its styling off of a 1970s Hatt but I think the boat is BEAUTIFUL.

Yes, I concur and my wife is absolutely in love with it. If only credit were not such a hassle these days. Whatever happened to all that bailout money banks got?:(

This thread will have a lot more meaning if a photo or two were posted.

Here's my attempt to post a pic.

    Image removed due to size!

Hmmm, it worked. Now, I need to figure how I can post one of my own that I took while checking it out at the West Palm Boat Show.

I could probably nit pic on the 42 Marquis all day (very stylistic with little thought to usability). Woody Woodpecker yes; black hull in a salt environment (good luck keeping it clean), sharp edges, and that's just the start of a long list. The one thing I just can't get by though is that swim platform with the point coming off the transom behind the cockpit seat. The platform is about 5' deep, but usable area is actually about 18" because of that. Someone is going swimming one day as people walk across it. Hopefully it won't be a mother-in-law.

On the SC-50 we reviewed on YF, the swim platform has more than adequate space to rescue wet mother-in-laws. I believe you may have seen a picture of the SC-50 with cockpit deployed, which extends backwards, granting more cockpit space? This leaves little space for the swim platform.

No, it was the 42 I referred to. Drop a plumb line down from that point behind the aft seat and see how much swimplatform you're left with. Think about how many times you've passed someone on the swim platform while at the dock or hanging on the hook. Like the weakest link in a chain determines its strength, the narrowest point on a swim platform determines its usable depth. Boat designers really should be boaters. Between severely raked windshields that bake the helmsman during the day and show nothing but dashboard at night, undersized furnishings, sharp edges, etc. too many boats are designed to look sharp at the shows. I recently ran a yacht from a very well regarded yard. It turned a lot of heads at the dock. It was also a POC. As for black hulls, my father used to say "everyone wants to own a black car, but seldom wants a second one" and cars aren't running through salt water.
