Have owned a 2003 Symbol 56 Pilothouse for past 6 years. Has Cat 3196 but some later 2003's had C12's. Very happy with the build, sea keeping and overall performance of this boat. Symbols are overbuilt in my opinion and seem to hold up well with regular maintenance.

I've just had an offer accepted on a Symbol 558... it's in the NW US and a quick YW search can find it for now but I'm not including the link since it'll be dead in a few months. I've done as much research as I know how online... other than what I've heard from one very vocal buyer in Australia (whose protest website appears to be gone) they seem like pretty solid boats. Looking forward to the survey and hopefully completed purchase!

Congratulations! I’ve owned 2 Symbols and found them to be very good boats. Well and solidly built, good design and good engineering. The quality of the final product depends so much on how the systems were installed and the commissioning. Did you get the one in Tacoma? Looked like a nice boat. I couldn’t find it on YW this evening when I looked.

Thanks! Hopefully the survey doesn't uncover something really bad. I'll be doing as detailed a survey as possible, especially on the engines... it has the Cat 3196s. It is the one up in Tacoma and it's still on YW - it isn't showing "pending" yet. Anyway, looking forward to it - if it works out the way we would like we'll spend some time cruising the San Juans before we bring it back to CA

    Hello Chrisjbell,

I've seen that yacht out on the water, she's a pretty one. The 558 is a great platform. Are you going ot keep her up in the PNW or are you taking her to CA?

The 3196 are great engines as long as you don't have the first series, my apologies, but I don't recall the cutoff SN#. Based on the age of your boat, that would be very unlikely. Ask your surveyor. I always ask for an oil analysis too as that can tell you a lot about the engine and how it was cared-for.

    Enjoy!

I'm looking at pilothouse yachts of all makes (Offshore, Ocean Alexander, Symbol, Mckinna). I particularly like the Symbol 50 that is for sale right now in Florida. Unfortunately it sold in 24 hours. This is a tough market for buyers!

Does anyone know about the cockpit extension history on models? I see old listings for 50+2 and 52's. All a bit confusing.

There isn't a whole lot of information on Symbols, or at least I've not been able to find much. I've owned two, but neither had transom extensions. Great boats, the hulls & decks are well made, the systems installation can be a bit hap hazard, mine were seakindly for coastal work, and relatively easily driven.

Hello, My Name is John Kaiser and I am very interested in finding a Symbol 45 trawler to purchase on the East Coast US. We currently have a slip we purchased in Stuart FL and either a 45' or 51 Pilothouse would be awesome.
