Viking 53C Shore Power Cord Length

    Probably a long shot, but does anyone know what length cord will fit in the Cablemaster? I want to replace the old cord, and I believe it has been shortened previously (only about 40')

    They come in 75' and 100' lengths, you can always shorten a 100' cord to make it fit and it's only $100 or so dollars for the longer cord. Viking can answer your question.

    Thanks. Good point. I'll call Viking. I suppose if I had to cut it I could make and extension cord with the leftover piece.

    Can you easily look into the cable bucket and ensure you have the room for any more cable.
    Look to ensure all the cable is going out?

    Before you order your cable, ensure the correct type and gauge.
    Pending isolation transformers, you may just need a cable with black, red and green leads vs black, red, green and white leads.
    This makes a difference in how the cable-master pulls on your cable also.

    Also, pending how/where you connect the new cable to your ship, a few or many feet of cable will be run thru the system to the first terminal block, splice or service breaker.
    IE; 75' cable leaves 65' (or less) of usable cable on the deck & dock.

    If you order the cable from Glenndenning in comes in the correct gauge and type, but you do need to confirm 3 or 4 wire. The 100' is a little over $100 more than the 75' so I usually always go with that and send it in and then if I need to shorten it, pull it back out, cut off the length I need to shorten and end up with a longer cord, usually do this on 60'+ boats. 50' boat a 75' cord is probably plenty.

    I can't easily look in to see. I have to take apart some cabinets in the cockpit which I'd prefer to do only once- Maybe I can get a camera in there to see. Current Cable is 6/4 and there is an isolation transformer. I didn't have time to call Viking, but I'll try tomorrow. I agree 75 is probably plenty and I carry an extension cord anyway. While I'm doing it, I'm also going to replace the hawsepipe which looks crappy and somehow got bent and wont close properly (I have a couple in my garage)

    If you have an isolation transformer that does not require a neutral (white) wire, your back and capacity will both be happy. Just have to adjust the power spool for thinner cable.

    The breaker for the shorepower cord "should" be accessible. Look there to see how many wires your cord is, or ie follow the cord after it leaves the storage drum to where it connects in the boat.
