My ride is a 23’7” center console single outboard, a Sea Hunt 234 Ultra, 2023 model.
(7.19 meters for you metric guys)
Getting tired of docking at my home port with insufficient room to turn around 180 degrees with a strong breeze blowing and too proud to ask for help every time the wind is out of the SW or W.
Called these guys Florida Bow Thrusters

They want $10,300 for a 2hp Side Power installation plus tax, $11,000 total.
Good reviews, they guarantee the work for life (the boat has a cored hull, a bad install could ruin the boat)
About twice the money I expected but okay, we got no kids, no grandkids, let it rip.
Does anybody have personal experience with this company, good or bad?

You are obsessively to spoiled or lazy to learn how to drive a boat.
Spend that money on our dinner and booze and learn how to drive a lil boat.

Thruster on a 23-footer? Might have to revoke your man-card. :p

I personally didn't have a great experience at the quote level, so never got any farther.

I instead went with an independent guy in your area. Danny was absolutely amazing, great price, stellar installation, and I'm picky.

He did now and stern on my Viking.

No, this is not about my Man Card, rather about a difficult docking situation: Have to back into a slip without enough room to turn. Often solo , no help, no crew and a light boat that moves like a rubber dinghy, also I go out when most folks stay home.
Frankly Ladies, I can afford a nice thruster installation, no expensive ex wife’s , no mortgages no nothing and I need to burn the money before I go to the old folks home shitting in diapers.
The question was about the company, Florida Bow Thruster, not about my manhood..

Uh, I have operated little boats in busy Fort Lauderdale for 24 years, both recreational and commercial, the issue ain’t me being lazy or unable to learn, jeez..
I love my toys and now considering adding a bow thruster to my retirement boat, the question was about the shop offering their services.
Be nice boys, I have owned boats since 1985 starting with heavy single screw sailboats and never hit or damaged anything or anybody.
This is not about me or my abilities but rather which shop, or brand of thruster..
No dinner or drinks for you..

Oh No, Don't say it's real. We owe each other so much (gallons)..

But it is kind of funny, You have been pushing boats all your life and now need a thruster on a 23 outboard.
    Brother, that is funny..

Don’t need, I want, as in I desire..
But only if I find a good shop for a reasonable price, $11k seems a bit high.
You buy dinner and drinks if I splurge on a bow thruster, but I will let you play with the
    joy-stick, if you are nice..

Why don't you just add a trolling motor on the bow? You could use it to turn the bow 90 degrees etc, but it also can be used for fishing, or spot lock. Minn Kota Terrova and a single lithium battery, and you'd be able to sell the boat without everyone laughing at you and it would bring value.

    Ah, good idea I guess..
Never had or used a trolling motor, don’t fish either.
(Get my fish at Publix, easy)
Not afraid of people laughing, maybe the other way around, easy to sell a boat with a nice and expensive option. Don’t need the Garmin 1243xsv either, just an expensive toy, but nice to have.

Don’t need my money back if I use and enjoy the boat for years to come.
This the Yacht Forum: Toy boats, big and small with lots of gadgets and goodies, including a bow thruster.

Then if you have to have it, You need a good shop to install it.
Call Florida bow thrusters. These kids would com to Jax and preform great work.

You got my attention with your comment; "Don’t need the Garmin 1243xsv either".
Currently installing new Simrad NSS/E3s displays, new AP, new radar and other toys.
Our boat still needs paint but this is more fun.

Yeah, 2hp, but crazy prices, got a quote from Florida Bow Thruster yesterday $10,300 plus taxes, so about $11k total. (I was thinking $5-$6k, silly me)

If that was eye watering, here is another one…

I can do it, but have to hide everything from wifey, she would kill my arse dead if she found out.o_O

The stock market tanked just now so I should hold off , or maybe look into one of those trolling motors mentioned by Capt. J.
Do they have a joystick and/or remote directional control?

Or just stay in the bars when the wind is howling..

Maybe because on top of being always in the way, it would transform a very nice boat into an eyesore. o_O

    Amen to all that.
Many of us with grey hairs (or none at all!) tend to dismiss boat gadgets just because we always managed to live without them.
But if they can make life even just a little bit easier, why not waste some money on them?
At the end of the day, if we shouldn't waste any money, we'd better not have a boat at all!

And ref. your question, which I see nobody answered yet, I'm afraid I know nothing about the company you're dealing with.
But, the thruster manufacturer (Side Power, aka Sleipner) is definitely among the best.

This is my Marina, the launch and retrieve position marked in red:
No enough room to turn the boat with a Westerly wind and a single outboard.
A twin is okay but my single engine foam filled boat with a bimini top gets blown sideways immediately. Sometimes the dock master can help and grab the bow or a good crew can cushion the blow or use a boat hook, or I do the hook myself.
A bow thruster would have been nice, but not sure about $9,900 plus tax = $10,593.00.
    Dear Santa… IMG_9450.jpeg

Sure that was the guy you recommended: Docking by Control. Nice people and I am sure they do a great job, but I have to think hard about blowing 5 figures on a little 2hp thruster..

Yup, a good thruster for sure, I had 2 of those on a Johnson 70 I was running 22 years ago for the owner, Sleipner bow and stern thrusters @ 25hp each, I could go sideways into the fuel dock and look good doing it, got spoiled with that gig. (The Johnson 70 also had Stidd seats on the Flybridge, very comfy chairs, had to have them and installed Stidds in my previous boat, an Albin 28TE, mama seemed happy about them)
