The "Disney ADVENTURE" left Meyer Wismar yesterday to embark on her first sea trials. For those who are not aware, this is an odd ball out of the lot for Disney Cruise Lines (DCL). This ship was destined to be the "Global Dream" but in the covid pandemic years, the parent company went out of business and therefore affecting the cruiseline it was for. DCL acquired the mostly finished hull and superstructure and then had to spend alot of money and effort to 'Disneyfy' a ship that was not meant for DCL. Under the circumstances, I think they did a good job so far. I think this ship will be destined for the Asian market if I am not mistaken.
Royal Caribbean's "Star of the Seas", the second hull in the ICON Class is now in service. Of course the first hull was "Icon of the Seas". Hull 3 is currently under construction is will be called "Legend of the Seas".
Like the usual Maxi-Cube boats big and small; while your fighting on the inside, you don't notice the view from the out side until your dropped off on the next dock.
Agree, they are not only ugly and bloated but they look like an accident waiting to happen. Bon Voyage, I guess..
I was on the SS Norway in prior lifetime (the old SS France built for transatlantic crossings) for a week out of Miami. First 24 hours the sea conditions posted were 18-22 ft. When one of the crew came into our stateroom to lower a thick steel plate over the port hole & when asked, he said it would get worse before better but they only used the ships stabilizers if it got really nasty. Would not want to be out there in one of the new floating hotels.
and here is "Brilliant Lady" from Virgin Voyages, their 5th and newest 'Lady' ship. This is when she was enroute to cross the Atlantic, currently she is in New York.
Brother I had enough of Disney years ago. I'm glad to see another big boat on the waters. Glad that another thousand of employees are working,,, hopefully with smiles. Thus, these positive vibes are not in vain just not in great recondition of Disney.
Would you choose to berth on Floor Q of Floor +? I'm not even intrigued until they get passenger capacity beyond 5,000. I don't want to go aboard and feel lonely........
My little town of Satsuma takes up 825 square miles. This may include some lakes, rivers and wet lands. I recall 5000 full time residents. But like tics, were mostly hidden or dug in. Maybe at the post office you can see 5 residences in the same eye view. Less at the only red-light. And still to many people for me. Looking down a corridor or open deck of a moving ship and in one eye view; hundreds of talking heads.. I'm already queasy here just thinking about it.
I would want the very top cabin and deck. Thinking an advantage of high ground. Altitude is our friend.
Celebrity Cruises has entered the River Cruising market and their first river vessel will be the "Celebrity COMPASS".
One of my previous tenants publishes a cruise magazine and used to offer me either free or upgraded cruises and invite to the annual party. Like Capt. Ralph, too many people for me too so always took a pass.
