Luhrs 40 Engine Air Intake

    Hi Fellas,

    Have just purchased a 2004 - 40 Luhrs Flybridge in Australia.
    Question is, I cant see where the engine air intake is drawn from into the bilge to provide cool air to intakes, this boat does not have the usual vent cut into the side of the hull like I have seen most luhrs of this age have.

    Also has anyone installed booster fans to increase cool air into the engine bay? Im thinking if I can get the engine bay cooler and more air flow, more HP and less $$ on running.

    Welcome to Yacht Forums.
    Lots of Luhrs fans here.
    I'm an ole Bertram bilge bum, but toured the St Augustine Luhrs plant many times.

    I am of the thought that engine room air comes in from the cockpit, under the forward coming.
    The idea is less salt air into the engine room.

    Your idea has merit but I can not see any further aide to a turbo charged engine.
    Inter or after cooling of the charged air is what helps the engine.

    Yanmar or Cummins engines?

    Thanks Ralph,

    My idea of more air is to keep the engine bay cooler, which will then create more power/efficiency.

    I have just found a custom set up from a refit called Back in Black but for some reason i cant attach the photos to this thread, even resized they say too large?

    More ventilation it is not going to help the turbo charged engine.
    What it will do is help the boat A Cs run better.
    A vented room will help when your working in there.

    To help the engines, keep the boats bottom to the air filters clean including the charged air coolers.

    Wanting to help our boat is what we all want to do these days.
    After all is clean, slowing down is the best way to stretch the fuel.

    You're wasting your time. It's not going to give you any noticable efficiency or anything. You could try running with the engine room door open. But the engine room is vented from intakes under the covering boards.

    I have a 2003 40 open - in the cockpit, there are 'grates' on either side, near the steps to the tower.....
